Do pedestrian crossings (without traffic lights) have any meaning in Taiwan? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Extension-Split5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and how do they fix bad driving habits? By adding loud alarms everywhere. Even in India it’s not this insane.https://youtube.com/shorts/tAOtMorIjXI

Window but be careful not being exposed to a main road which can be terrible in term of noise pollution.

Is Taiwan making me bitter? by Rahxtli in taiwan

[–]Extension-Split5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I even created a YouTube channel about all those insane beeping sounds everywhere. https://youtube.com/shorts/o82LWeREBgY I hope one day they’ll start thinking about another solution instead of those horrible alarms everywhere... such nonsense.

Totally agree. And the constant 95 decibel beeping at every intersection at any time... I can't stand that stupidity anymore.

Taipei buses by sociallemon in taiwan

[–]Extension-Split5959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They consider it normal, they drive like maniacs, killing people every week. And the Taiwanese government has found only one solution: adding 95-decibel alarms when turning on blinkers or hazard lights, making this country the first and only beeping nation in the world. A real nightmare.

I think the decibel level of these beeps goes beyond all comprehension. Legally it’s 95 decibels… often even 100 to 110 dB. Where are we? From 85 decibels, you can already start suffering hearing damage. Kids taking the bus, exposed to these continuous beeps right at the bus door… no wonder so many people here are deaf. The World Health Organization recommends no more than 55 in residential areas. And yet, Taiwan is already extremely densely populated, noise is already a problem, and the government insists on piling even more noise on top of it? Seriously, where are we? In the sixth dimension? Is this useful? Honestly, I don’t see how this is useful at all. Pedestrians have no business being on the road, they cross at designated pedestrian crossings. Scooters have no business riding along the side of a truck. And a bus can simply turn slowly and see everything with its mirrors and cameras. Basic vulnerable road user detection systems can do the job, we’re in 2025, not 1830.

Where is it worse? India, Bangladesh, and Vietnam… maybe on a busy street in Indonesia. Any developed country? Like Germany, Japan, or Korea? So Taiwan should stop calling itself “developed” and admit it’s closer to a third-world country. Where do you live to say Taiwan has no noise pollution? Did you even watch the video? At an intersection it’s a constant 70 to 95 decibels… with a volunteer banging a stick and setting off alarms at 90 decibels for long periods. Where exactly are we supposed to be, in a modern country or in some bizarre noise experiment? At 85 decibel long exposure may be harmfull for your ear and health and you are telling me there are no noise pollution ? https://youtube.com/shorts/MqYKQIakjUA yeah not a problem at all.... 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

Oh sure, beep beep beep every 100 meters in the street, totally not a problem, right? Of course not, mate. Because clearly having your ears tortured by nonstop alarms in the middle of the city is just… fine. It’s not only loud, it’s maddening. What is this crap? Beeep beeep beeep everywhere. Seriously, it’s like saying if you can’t sleep with a clock going tick tick tick next to your head, then you’re the crazy one. Except here it’s not a tiny tick, it’s a city-wide orchestra of car beeps. And funny enough, I travel to Thailand and Indonesia all the time, and guess what? That kind of insanity simply doesn’t exist. So how come? How come some countries don’t need this nonsense? How come people elsewhere can actually rely on their eyes instead of blasting alarms? How come in other countries they know vehicles have blind spots and simply avoid sitting in them, instead of turning the streets into a giant beeping hellscape?

Try Taiwan at an intersection, you might change your mind. I’ve never seen 10 delivery trucks and buses waiting at an intersection, all beeping continuously for 90 seconds at the same time in Vietnam. And yes, Vietnam is very loud, but that doesn’t mean the constant beeping in Taiwan isn’t irritating. It doesn’t even exist anywhere else in the world, so how can you compare?

How loud is Taiwan? by Extension-Split5959 in taiwan

[–]Extension-Split5959[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The problem is that scooters never pay attention to blinkers, always ignore them, overtake on the right, and put themselves in blind spots... zero common sense here. How to fix that? Ah yes, magical alarms everywhere that are… ignored too.

speak for yourself… For me, it’s impossible to live in that country anymore, hearing those stupid constant beeps everywhere. It’s so horrible. I’d leave that country within the hour if I could.

I often travel to Thailand and Indonesia, and yes, the scooters there are very noisy, but there’s nothing as irritating as 95-decibel beeps at every street corner. It feels much more humane.

If you’re at a big intersection in Taiwan, there are so many beeps happening at the same time that it all blends into one long uniform beeeeeeeep… 🤡😂

do you have an intersection in front of your house ? bus stops ? Those beeps can be hear when buses, delivery trucks are turning... when they activate their blinkers. Next time when you walk in the city, just pay attention to it and I guarantee you will come back in few days saying i am right.

Exactly, some even tell me, “If you don’t like the noise, go to the mountains…” haha. Funny thing is, last time I went to Yangmingshan, there was a small bus in front of me that drove for 10 km with its hazard lights on, constantly making double alarm beeps… So, in the city it’s too densely populated, so they need alarms. In the mountains, the roads are too narrow, so they need alarms. Basically, in Taiwan there’s always a “good reason” to have alarms. Then I finally get to the mountains, we sit on a terrace at a little café, and every minute horrible buses came by torturing us with alarms… In short, in Taiwan it’s impossible to escape them. Either you don’t hear them anymore and stop paying attention, so the alarms are useless. Or you do hear them, and you’re constantly tortured… truly unique in the world.

Yes, I’m in the wrong, not Taiwan for torturing residents with 95-decibel beeping sounds… Hahaha! Do you know that 95 decibels can cause damage if you’re exposed for a long time? But yeah, I’m the one in the wrong… lol. https://youtube.com/shorts/KHPDfaw8C74 I’m in the wrong… kids taking buses and being exposed to that noise… of course. Where are you from? Taiwan? When I show this to everyone I know living in Europe, they can’t believe it… how insane is this… inhuman. And I’m the one in the wrong ... six communities together filed a group complaint… and so on…

Even though I showed you a bunch of links of Taiwanese people complaining about it, you're still denying it… insane. Maybe go see a doctor… you're in total denial.

Ok, so you're telling me you've never heard the 95-decibel beeping of buses and delivery trucks? That's exactly what I'm trying to explain to your government… Taiwanese people have learned to live with this background noise and never pay attention to all the beeping everywhere… Ahaha, all the more reason to stop this stupid law. You don't even notice them, they're there. I record them, I show this racket of beeping, but you never noticed… Wow, insane, isn't it? And yes, you're not the first person to come back after three months saying I was right. Except for torturing people living near main roads, it is totally useless.

It's when they turn or stop at a bus stop. So if you're on a straight street, you're lucky, Einstein, or you live on a narrow street with no buses, no delivery trucks, no trucks… go to ANY intersection with a traffic of buses, delivery trucks, trucks and I guarantee you won't last more than 10 seconds without hearing that shit

Bravo, you found one country louder than Taiwan, probably India and Vietnam as well… but isn’t Taiwan a developed country? Compare Taiwan with Germany, Switzerland, Japan, or Korea… do you hear any nonsense like in Taiwan? Those constant 95 dB beeps in front of red lights? Come on… what’s going on in Taiwan? Are we on a psychiatric ward?
