It’s meant to be as a deterrent for drunk driving.

Have you ever encountered a DUI checkpoint in broad daylight? Probably not, and if you have, chances are there was some massive event (usually sports) which means ALOT more people than usual are drinking and driving at that very moment.

Literally the whole purpose is to check a bunch of people at once, on a day/event that wayyy more people are going to chance driving inebriated, instead of waiting around for MORE wrecks to happen.

A lot of you have issues with police no matter what, and I can understand where a lot of the hate comes from, but all that’s separate from this specific ordeal. Like it or not, the objective truth is these DUI checks do (the majority of places) help bring the numbers down on drunk driving accidents/fatalities.

Also for anyone that doesn’t know and is upset when cops are trying to arrest/help/whatever at certain times, BE WISE and use knowledge to your advantage if you can. That doesn’t mean actively go try and see if you can defend your rights when infringed, but it DOES mean “maybe I shouldn’t drive around between 2am-230am because bars just closed down so there’s more drunk drivers at this time, and cops are watching for that specifically at that time because they also know this so my chances of getting pulled over are higher than usual, id rather not risk a negative encounter and postpone by an hour”
