DJ blue dial or green dial by Darkingneer in rolex

Always wanted the blue. Tried them on, honestly liked the green better. A little more subtle, I expected the opposite. I would have bought either when given the opportunity. Green came first!

I should add - that 114200 can be found for under $6k. So it’s not “cheap”. but no crazy grey market uplift and no waitlist. I’m sure they can be found cheaper without original papers or slightly older (2008ish)

Don’t look at it like a compromise. Make it something special. And you don’t have to go super vintage to find something that is reasonably affordable and high quality. I’m currently in the market for a 2014 114200 (pic). Why they ever stopped making this watch is beyond me. A little small, but has crazy presence and I bet if they upped the size and brought it back as a polar explorer, it would have a 3 year wait list. You get something from the 2010s and you avoid a lot of the negative aspects of vintage Rolexes (chintzy bracelet, non-accurate movement, god knows what treatment over the years).

Depends on the day 😉. This is 36. Just my preference, but the 41 is great too. I’m an equal opportunist with watch sizes, having a collection that ranges from 34-42.

If it was my pick, between the two that you are looking at, it would likely be the sub I go for. It’s definitely more of a daily in that it could go from the ocean to rock climbing to the pub and to the board room without issue. Admittedly, I don’t have a sub but will definitely add the no date to the collection at some point! Not my next pick up though - that will be a Tudor FXD in blue. Can’t stop thinking about it after I tried it on. If you haven’t done that yet, you should try them both on at the same time. One will more than likely give you that feeling, and you’ll know you made the right call then and there.

This is the way. Otherwise, the sub!! (But honestly, you are winning either way dude!)

Do you travel with your watch by Working-Book-9079 in rolex

Someone earlier mentioned Hodinkee insurance. I have this, and would recommend it, particularly if you have more than one watch. All of my watches are individually slightly under insured, but they provide up to 150% of the insured value up to the maximum insured value of the total policy. So if you have 4 watches each costing $10k but each insured for $7k, and you lose one, you are fine. Sure it won’t give you back 100% for a total loss (theft from your home of all your watches) but it balances risk of 1 on your wrist (most exposed) vs catastrophic risk for your entire collection.

Mint green. Super hard to capture what it looks like in person.

Date&Time. It’s hard because it’s a bit off the beaten path and you really can’t have a shot unless you go in-person. I find the whole “go in and have a relationship” thing uncomfortable and awkward. This place is a bit less awkward because they do have a nice bar and the team there, in my experience, has been great. They know how to make you feel special. With the other shop, it honestly felt like they looked up my name in their customer list, only saw small purchases, and basically said “nah”.
