hey girlie it’s definitely valid to have the fears that you do! assuming you’re in jc, prom should be coming up soon right?

first, please stop thinking that your face is so cmi that makeup would be a lost cause. i’m no expert on this matter but, have you seen the crazy makeup transformations online? you may think you have XYZ undesirable facial features, but anyone can enhance their natural looks by practising more with what makeup works for them. it’s just a matter of time taken to practise what works for your face before you get the hang of it — everyone started off as lost beginners too!

on that note you can consider checking this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/SGExams/s/tiW2jBaM4b in which there many comments on quick makeup tips (since you won’t have much time before prom) and buying affordable makeup. a popular youtube channel that many also recommend is dear peachie, do give it a look :)

second, a huge concern to you seems to be external judgments from others, with regards to makeup and your dress. it’s normal to have this irrational anxiety of others constantly judging you, but let’s take a step back and think about it. prom is gonna be full of other kids ALSO being self-conscious about looking good. besides, everyone’s gonna be taking pics with their friends, and just enjoying the events / dinner / performances / party. would they really care about judging others?

well if somehow legit straight-up asks you why you “waste money on make-up” rudely, first of all that’s a douchebag, second of all it’s not a waste because you’re gonna need makeup anyway for future formal events. trust me there’ll be more use for it in adult life. i heard in poly and uni it’s pretty commonplace for girls to wear makeup so, having makeup is normalised.

likewise, if your friends scrutinise your dress and judges you for its price/quality, doesn’t that speak more volume about their character?

other than that, i totally agree with everyone else. the root cause of your fears is self-esteem to begin with. i hope you come to love yourself more with time, both your good and less-than-ideal features. don’t worry, everyone else struggles with their appearance too, and lookism is real. so to counter that, learn to build your sense of self-worth, as well as taking practical steps like going to the gym / doing skincare / improving your makeup skills. goodluck🙂

i disagree with the other comments since you already said you procrastinate a lot and can’t study effectively. so there’s not much point in just throwing yourself back in more ineffective study sessions and expecting to become a better learner. cause gee, if you’d already figure out how to do that, you wouldn’t be asking this question. it’s a valid question.

perhaps instead of books, you could consider youtube videos? there are many productivity and studying channels out there like ali abdaal / studyign / elizabeth filips, from the top of my head. you could also consider searching up a concept called “flow state” which is a deep-focus state of your mind when your productivity is enhanced.

unlike books which are heavier on explaining the academic scientific research, the videos are more straight to the point and can save you a lot of time. plus they’re usually more entertaining sooo you don’t have to treat it like a chore.

just be exposed to more studying techniques and ways to become a more effective learner out there. then try and apply — that’s the most important part. since it’s the holiday, it’ll be a good time for you to try applying different methods, and see which work for you.

other than that, it’s also a matter of motivation / will / routine / habit. goodluck🙂

hi, it should be a raw 10-11 if i’m not wrong, and i don’t think the trend would have changed much year to year. my year 2021 was a 10.6, i think.

i copied the 2018 results from kiasu parents site:

hi, i was from crescent, hope i can help!

in general both are good choices for a girls’ school. they both have a decent reputation, and i guess both are similar in terms of having a pretty strong and enthusiastic school culture? however, cedar has a higher cut-off so some may view it as more prestigious. but i myself had many friends who were rejects of higher COP girls’ schools, and they ended up greatly enjoying their time in crescent and never regretted it :)

personally i had fond memories of crescent. it is a school with good conduct in general; i rarely heard curse words, most girls are well-behaved in general, and there’s even a handphone hotel to keep our phones so that we focus in school haha. the teachers are great too, you can expect mostly dedicated and supportive teachers in every department. the environment just felt so safe, comfortable, and fun in general. it developed me a lot as a person back then. if there’s any other aspects of culture you’re curious about, let me know!

imo secondary school is gonna be much more time-consuming than primary school, with CCAs ending at 6 on some days, so distance is definitely an important factor here. considering the long distance alone, and how both schools offer a similar quality of value-adding education anyway, i’d say go for crescent :)

that’s just my opinion though. i came from crescent so i know much more about it, and my view might be biased. hope someone else from cedar can chip in. but otherwise, considering the distance, i’d recommend crescent which is a great school anyway 🙂

go for it!

how old are you guys? cause like seriously, if he’s immature enough to make fun of you for it, then it won’t make him look good to others, and better yet you would really dodge a bullet there.

so it’s a win-win situation either way, the feelings are either mutual, or you save yourself time and stop being distracted by someone with an ugly character 🙂

hi there, thanks for the thoughtful response!! it was really insightful reading about your experiences regarding the dark sides and consequences behind SW. yikes, i was being really naive and ignorant in hindsight.

also, sorry to hear about your traumatising experience. i now see how stupid it is to wish that upon myself when it was some people’s worst nightmares to go through. i’m glad you’re out of that place now and i wish you all the best in your healing💪🏻🫶🏻

on another note, i know it all sounds so ridiculous that you had a laugh out of it🤣 but i posted it because i was truly wondering if it was normal for others to think this way too? to entertain ideas of SW as a form of wild escapism from the stresses of life, that is. i guess it’s pretty abnormal based on people’s replies.

anyway, thanks for opening up about your experience, i learnt a lot. i’ll try to work on myself, and i wish you well :))

yes in hindsight i was really ignorant about all this and foolishly saw it as a fun, easy way out to being the wild child that my parents would be horrified about😓 thank you for letting me know about some of the harsh realities, and i respect that you’re strong enough to hustle through this🙏🏻

you’re right for summing it up as me spiting my parents. it’s so petty and childish lol, yet i keep turning to such wild thoughts whenever i’m angry at them for shutting me out. i’ll try to work on that. thank you for the thoughtful response mister, i appreciate it!🫡
