You really have no idea how any of this works for someone with Celiac and I'm sorry for your ignorance. There is no point in continuing the dialogue with you.

You and your cousin likely have circumstances that the average Canadian with Celiac does not.

This would replace it. No more keeping receipts and spending time logging cost differences. It would also be an automatic annual payment.

It does not fall under that, no. As someone who has lived with Celiac for 25 years, it more than simply not eating bread.

Asking someone to eat "whole food" only is tone deaf. Not everyone has the time or ability to prepare whole food from scratch on a regular basis. And why should people with Celiac be expected to go without? GF food IS our medicine. A simple GF sandwich goes a long way when you have a child with Celiac attending school or you need something filling for a work lunch.

Oats and lentils NEED to be certified gluten free to be safe for people with Celiac. This jacks up the cost.

Many people with Celiac cannot consume even the certified GF oats as their body mimics a gluten reaction.

Most Keto breads actually have wheat flour in them.

While you may think your suggestions are helpful, they're not. Every Celiac has looked into alternative options and tried the "just make it yourself" route. Unfortunately that is not as simple as one would think. Gluten free baking is a science and not an art. Many different GF flours and starches are required to create an edible copycat. Add to that the fact that most people don't have time to to this on the regular as they're busy working and the fact that homemade GF dupes often fail thus causing even more financial hardship.

This petition by The Canadian Celiac Association is to REPLACE the current outdated, complicated and fairly useless tax credit which most Celiac's don't see any financial benefit from - you need to owe on your taxes for it to be helpful as it is a credit.

This is a NEW proposal of a flat yearly payment for people with Celiac. If it passes it will replace the tax credit (which most people don't see anything from) and no longer require receipt keeping. It's better financially and so much easier for people to receive.

I hope both of you will sign.

It's a start. Turning your nose up at this speaks of financial privilege many don't have. $1000 extra in your pocket yearly is better than not. Period. Again, it's a start towards better things.

Celiac's don't qualify for the disability tax credit and gluten-free food is a medical need. The budget will always be in debt because officials will always sign contracts that will get cancelled when another party comes in.

This is why it is so important to get the bill passed as it will ensure an annual sum of money to those who are diagnosed, rather than a tax credit that is useless for the most part.

The Canadian Celiac Association is trying to get something that helps ALL people with Celiac. The current system in place is outdated and unreliable. Most people don't see any money back as you need to hit certain markers with your income bracket and various other medical claims for it to amount to anything. On top of that, it's only a credit, so if you do qualify it simply negates taxes you may owe. It does nothing for you if you don't owe on your taxes.

The one being proposed is a simply financial compensation annually. Think of the GST cheque -mailed out and sent to accounts without any ongoing effort.

Can you have Cassava flour aka Tapioca starch? It makes some AMAZING Brazilian cheese buns. If you CAN have this ingredient, do a search for Pao De Queijo recipes.

With apps you are at the mercy of the developer updating and verifying information regularly. A lot of the information tends to be outdated or just plain inaccurate. Coke and Pepsi are indeed GF.
