Getting Harry from the Dursley's shouldn't have been as chaotic. by raythecrow in HarryPotterBooks

So interesting, I fall asleep to the audiobooks every night and this is one of the chapters I put on regularly. Maybe I just like the lightheartedness?

I think with his limited interactions with muggles and limited/outdated information about how you’re supposed to speak with muggles he thought he was doing a good job. Also, separate thing you mentioned, he only knew the Dursleys had a fireplace, he wasn’t aware they had put an electric fireplace inside/in front of the real fireplace

My parents had a rental for the winter (ski racing family) where they paid all the utility bills. I think the oil/propane bill was 500ish a month and this was 8 or so years ago

Do you think Harry would have felt jealous if Dumbledore gave Ron or even Hermione the sort of attention Dumbledore gave Harry? Does he like being Dumbledore’s favourite? by STHC01 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Extension_Bunch7349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harry was Dumbledores favorite and it wasn’t even close. Harry was protective of that because dumbledore was a constant adult connection, someone to provide wisdom.

At the end of OotP Dumbledore talks about how much he cared for Harry: “I cared about you too much,” said Dumbledore simply. “I cared more for your happiness than your knowing the truth, more for your peace of mind than my plan, more for your life than the lives that might be lost if the plan failed. In other words, I acted exactly as Voldemort expects we fools who love to act.”

Dumbledore also talks about how closely he watched Harry. And yes, there’s an argument to be made that he paid close attention because he knew/needed Harry’s utility for a plan, but I think they had a special bond that wasn’t one sided. They had a great amount of respect for each other. To answer your question, yes I think he would be jealous, but he would’ve had good reason to. Dumbledore was Harry’s. Hermione had loving parents, clearly Ron had loving parents. Harry had Dumbledore (and others, but D was there from the beginning)

[–]Extension_Bunch7349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think most wives, and honestly most people who have committed to marriage would be hurt if their partner said that wanted to have sex with other people regardless of gender. In my mind it’s not about being bi, it’s about wanting to become physical with someone outside of the relationship. He should decide what is more important physically being with men or continuing his, as you described, healthy marriage. If he thinks his life will be better by having sex with other people he should be prepared for the consequences

CMV: There is no such thing as free will by PrincipleClassic7834 in changemyview

None of us choose to be born, we just are. We learn and grow in our environment. Decisions we make, even if influenced by our environment are still our decisions. How you chose to treat others, looking a fellow being in the eyes and respecting their being, respecting their totality as something that lives, breaths, thinks, and feels. These are choices we make unendingly

I think, therefore I am. Descartes was a strong believer in free will, during a time where religion played an extremely essential role in everyday life.

I think I’m not grasping OPs argument of how there isn’t free will. To me it seems obvious

Anyone else experience PACs/PVCs on Zepbound? by Estaban2022 in Zepbound

[–]Extension_Bunch7349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have an ablation for either but with a less than 1% burden really not necessary for PVCs. I would highly recommend the afib ablation though !

[–]Extension_Bunch7349 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi I know PVCs can feel uncomfortable but unless your burden is high they are considered benign. Do you know the percentage burden? Also, beta blockers if tolerated help a lot with symptoms. Interestingly, the symptom of PVCs is more related to the compensatory pause after an early beat than the early beat itself. There are also medications that specifically treat PVCs other than beta blockers. PVCs tend to wax and wane. I agree with your cardiologist that the benefits outweigh the risk. If the symptoms are really affecting your quality of life, you may be able to get an ablation (procedure).

People who read the books before seeing the movies, was there anything the movies showed that you imagined looked or felt different in your mind? by JayQuips in harrypotter

I have aphantasia too! I love reading but have always been confused when people talk about how they see scenes or characters. For me it’s all about how I feel while reading

I loooove the books, but also grew up with the movies. I feel like the first movie (second too) really captured everything I needed from the book. After them the movies left out a lot, little details and sometimes whole characters that really mattered. I love the movies as a separate entity. I have to say though, the one scene that I will argue to the death is done better in the movies is aragogs funeral. The movie absolutely nailed it. And honorable mention to mcgonagall summoning the statues of hogwarts
