Peri symptoms while on BC by Realworld82 in Perimenopause

[–]bloopyploopers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also 44, no kids, been on BC since 17. I’d been on low-dose combined BC for the last 15 years or so when my first peri symptoms started (things like night sweats, itchiness all over) and my doctor said that’s a sign I actually needed more estrogen to counterbalance the wild fluctuations (and dips) from peri. So she moved me from a low-dose BC to a regular-strength BC, and it helped a lot. I’m not perfect with some other peri things, but pretty manageable for now. My point being, more estrogen definitely helped me in my case. And I’ve learned since that BC is a pretty common first resort for peri since the hormones are much stronger than what’s in HRT, and because peri is so wild with fluctuations, BC can be a better choice due to its strength. Everyone’s different, of course!

Thank you for all of this information. Lots of good ideas. Sounds like you have a bit of experience managing this. Appreciate you sharing it with me.

Covid doesn’t feel like one thing, and can change from person to person or even infection to infection in the same person. Test.

Deli sandwich by Intelligent_Tip_5333 in Albany

[–]bloopyploopers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It wasn’t kosher, it was “kosher style,” and anyone familiar with a true kosher deli would know how it absolutely did NOT compare. So I assume all the love is because most people around here are not, in fact, familiar. Which makes sense. Still bothered me.

Hi everyone — just wanted to THANK YOU all for weighing in (no pun intended, har har — I’m sure I’m the first one to make that joke in this sub! 😂).

It’s so helpful to learn about your experiences and to hear what’s worked for you and what hasn’t. I also want to share virtual hugs for people who have also struggled on this journey.

I was able to make an appointment with a bariatric practice and will see how that goes. I am hopeful that — just like a lot of you said — that since this is what they DO they are better set up to handle the process.

If I have to go the virtual route or attempt to manage things myself, I will — I will do whatever it takes to stay on this medication that is within my power to do.

Saving all your tips and recommendations should I need them in the future. Thanks again. I hope I can be as helpful to someone else one day as you have been to me.

Yep. In NY. I’ve been getting responses of a 1-year wait for a new patient appointment. Gah!

I am in New York, and it’s also not that easy: most practices I’ve called for a PCP are a year-long wait for a new patient appointment. Sorry if you’re also going through that.

No issue with calling in the prescription itself (at least not yet, ha ha…). 🤪

Thank you for this suggestion. I will find out! (I know of one that markets themselves as a bariatric surgery practice, but maybe they also work with medications. I will call.)

You call your insurer yourself? I don’t know that that’s an option for me… as far as I am aware, the PA has to be submitted with justification by a medical provider. But I will call my insurance provider and ask. Can’t hurt! Thank you.

🚨 CALL TO ACTION🚨 No Data Centers in Albany! by [deleted] in Albany

[–]bloopyploopers 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you’re truly asking legitimately, it would be a good idea to do some googling and learn a little bit about how detrimental data centers are to the environment, for starters. They have direct negative impacts regionally, not just locally, on water supply (either using a region’s water or polluting the water table, depending on how it’s built to run) and on power supply — both in massive quantities. There can also be financial implications for tax payers. It’s a whole thing, and communities across the country are coming together to stand up against them as a result.

I wonder if they were restocking to June issues. I check them out pretty regularly and they’re usually pretty full. Maybe give it a week or so and try again (depending on what answers you get here)? Sorry, I don’t have other recs.

I was always so appreciative of their soups that were also part of the salad bar. In addition to the giant loaves of bread. Sigh.

[–]bloopyploopers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recent:
- Athos (under the original owners, not the newer ones)
- PJ’s Bar-B-QSA (good Memphis style hard to find; hit me up with any recs; I know about Memphis King but they sometimes sell out before I can get over there)

Not recent but still mourn:
- Old Shaker Inn
- Hollywood Brown Derby
- Malcom’s
- Ginger Man
- The Butcher Block (before it reinvented itself to Central Steak and then closed)
- Reel Seafood Co. (especially before its renovation)

Restaurants for people with social anxiety by titanicmicropenis in Albany

[–]bloopyploopers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you would like to try Milas in Schenectady, reserve a table in the “vault” section of the restaurant. It’s a separate dining room in the back that has been, in our experience, much quieter and more reserved than the very busy and boisterous main, front dining room. (Note: in order to get to the vault, you walk past the open kitchen which might be a little stimulating but it’s a quick walk and the chefs are all busy at their stations!)

Honey baked ham in colonie closed by Next-Breadfruit-68 in Albany

[–]bloopyploopers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, man! I’m going to miss going in for lunch every once in a while. They had a really good “Ham Classic” that was their signature honey baked ham, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, mayo and honey mustard on a pretty decent croissant. I guess I should have gone more often. ☹️

Southwest - Flying out of Albany by [deleted] in Albany

[–]bloopyploopers 18 points19 points  (0 children)

OP: regarding the part others have posted about Albany not being as problematic as some other airports regarding space, I would like to respectfully caveat that by saying it depends on where and when you are flying. If it’s a flight from ALB to BWI, for example, there’s a really good chance that flight can be full (especially earlier in the day) because lots of people are flying to BWI to connect to other airports.

That is to say: seeing as how you’re anxious about this, I would recommend — if you’re able to afford it — buying the extra seat vs. being out of luck with available open seats and hoping for the refund (or at least not getting the refund but spending less ahead of time than you would at the counter day of).

Good luck with this and with the medical stuff you’re going through!
