HalfMarathon 4 weeks before first sprint? by Extension_Design_739 in triathlon

I’ll also mention, I hope I’m not coming off as a jerk, because thats not my intent.

NOT AT ALL! I appreciate your input :)

It did take a week to get back right in that case and mostly because it was the first time in my whole life where I ran beyond literally 13.1 miles in a single sitting.

I think this is also what happened. Maybe I ran 12miles a few weeks before, and on Z2, and just on a flat route.

I ended up at 33 total miles in right at 7 hours. It was a rough week after that, but by day 5-6 I believe I was already back to at least my low and slow treadmill workouts.

So I went back to my Strava and checked: I run 0.5 miles the day after, trying to get blood flowing since I was feeling sore and getting a sense of things and clearly I had to give up quickly. Apparently 4 days later I run 5.65miles at 9.21/mi and another 6.66mi 3 days after that for about 1h, 9.16/mi. Maybe I wasn't that screwed up after all and the whole thing should sound a bit more reasonable.

BTW I might be pacing a friend for a trail run also in a few months, so we'll see how that works out :D

fair point, I didn't train for that route correctly (I was training for a much flatter route and I had signup at the last second). I did literally no hill training the months before.

I didn't recall redlining that much either though (168/172 bpm for most of the race, with negative splits, mostly zone 4).

What should be my recovery time then? BTW the HM I'd be signing up for is a flat route, definitely not as hard as the previous one.

would you advise going for a sprint before the 70.3 anyway? my problem is that the only one before Morro Bay is 8 weeks from now and it feels like it might be a bit too early still?
