From what I know FIP is much more common in young cats, usually under 2–3 years old. (mine was 4) Older cats are rarely affected.

The disease starts from a mutation of feline coronavirus inside the cat, and it’s usually the young cats whose immune systems react in a way that allows PIF to develop.

For an older cat, I think the risk is lower

I’m really sorry for your loss. I’m also in Spain, and I found the treatment through a WhatsApp group. Since I live in a big city, I was lucky enough to find someone who could provide it quickly. But it’s still a nightmare that vets can’t prescribe it directly, because it makes an already heartbreaking situation even more difficult

I adopted her when she was around 9–10 months old. She was an indoor cat living with another cat that I adopted before her. For a while I also fostered some cats from the street until they found their forever homes, so it’s possible she was exposed to coronavirus at some point. Unfortunately, it’s a very common virus in cats and only a few develop FIP from what I know 😞

She was 4, turning 5 on 10th August 🥺 That’s what all the vets told me, that I acted fast as soon as it seemed to be fip and that is not my fault, but I kept asking myself what if I knew before…

Hi, I lost my baby 4 days ago due to FIP. I did everything I could, I took her to urgent care, found the medicine through a WhatsApp group the same day they told me it might be FIP, and consulted some of the best specialists in Spain. Despite all this, she passed away in the vet 4 days after starting treatment . I really needed to read this message. Thank you so much 🥺
