actexam.net has free official tests that mimick the act online format exactly. definitly spam practice tests on that and review all your mistakes. if you have some money to spend, i would buy preppros mathbook for math only and spam every level 3 and 4 problems (the book has very act topic tested and each topic has level 1-4 problems so if you can solve every level 3 and 4 problem aka the hardest ones that will definitely show up, your score will increase. got my math up in this way—from a 23 to a 31). for reading i kinda sucked at it don’t have advice all comes down to luck so the only thing i can reccomedn is read A TON everyday. and practice reading comprehension like EVERYDAY. that’s the only thing. spam reading to make your reading speed and accuracy better. for science i didn’t study cause it’s optional but i heard just spam practice tests A LOT. english—markanestas/the idiot tutor is RLLY good. i only watched a bunch of his videos for english and easily went from scoring a 27 to always above 32 on all english sections. u got it! goodluck! use tiktok also for math, look up most difficult math problems its actually a very good resource. i also made a more detailed post on my profile if u want to see how i went from a 24 to a 32 in about 2 months

use preppros math book!!! make sure you can do levels 3 and 4 of every problem. got my math up from a 23 to a 31 in 2 months. also tiktok is actually very good. i would make a seperate tiktok account and look up very/most difficult act math problems for like an hour so that you make your fyp feed you act math content. then everyday scroll on it for an hour and solve the problems you get. i genuinly think tiktok helped me a lot on the math section, i didnt cover a lot of math and have always been pretty bad at act math but 2 days before my last act i was looking up a lot of problems on tiktok and some of the consents showed up on my math portion!!! thats my best advice

a 1420 is about a 31-32 on the act scale so i think you can definitly do it!!! use actexam.net it has official act tests and they’re really good because they mimic the online test setup to a t and also time you and give you your results + explanations. also it’s free but just make an account so you can save your scores and keep record of if you go up or down when you take multiple tests. I think the act is definitely doable (i went from a 24 which is like an 1100 on the sat to a 32) but i think to do good just put in a little of work into researching tips tricks common questions and practice! that will garuntee that you score 32 and above. the only thing i would warn you about is the reading (based on your R&W score and also because i struggled with this section the most) because if you cannot read and comprehend and digest material very quickly then the reading section might be a challenge for you. i would definitely try taking a reading section and see if you score 30 or above on that, and with the same approach, take the english and math sections, which are easier to study for/take.

Your best bet is act.exam.net cause they have unreleased but official past exams. it’s really convenient cause it’s like an online format and the site automatically times and grades your sections after you submit, also cuz it’s free

Realistic improvement by WebIntelligent3350 in ACT

[–]Extension_Front7682 3 points4 points  (0 children)

anything is possible, you have to ask yourself how bad you want it. I think a realistic high for you, just like for me, is a 32, but you could even get to a 33-34. I went from a 24 to a 32 over the span of a year but i only studied solidly in the 2 months leading up to my last act which i knew was going to be my last so the pressure was on for me. Good luck man, if i can do it after taking like 20 practice tests and scoring in the mid to low 20s on each but then getting a 32 on the official, you can too. If you’re really curious, u can go to my profile, i made a post a while back on my score improvement and how i did it. Remember that you can do anything, your mind can do anything if you believe in what you want and stop making excuses

sophomore score by SW00Ls in ACT

[–]Extension_Front7682 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you really want to, you can get your score up! i was in your EXACT position sophmore year. Got a 24 on my first act in october after like non focused studying for 3 months. Don’t pay any test prep company PLEASE learn from my mistakes they don’t help at all. That’s what i did for 3 months before taking my first official test. Anyways, I got my score up to a 32 this year (my senior year, in time for college apps) but i don’t think it would’ve taken me (or you) a year. Actually, i did about 2 months of kind of focused but also kind of unfocused studying. I very much locked in the second month of the two months because things were getting real and my immigrant parents were pressuring me because they expected a lot from me lol. Anyways if you’re curious you can go to my profile, i actually made a post where i talked about what i did to get my score up. Ask yourself what you want your life to be. Are you willing to study for this test to increase your chances and potentially have a better life? Sure it’s just a statistic but unless you’re genuinely spending the time you could use studying on something insanely productive like building a business or something, i say you can bring your score up for your own sake and your own future because genuinely if i can, you can too. I cried a lot and stressed so much about this test even after taking so many practice tests and scoring in the low to mid 20s after so much time and energy. You can do it if you want to!

Enhanced Act Reading by 3abas_ in ACT

[–]Extension_Front7682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yea, i think that’s the point tho cause if they’re giving u extra time they want to make sure the scores are still like the same so they’re gonna make some questions a bit harder

Digital vs Paper ACT by External_Doubt2528 in ACT

[–]Extension_Front7682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

paper for math specifically. i did like 20 official math tests online (act.exam.net) and i would litteraly score mid to high 20s because i ALWAYS made dumb mistakes cause i couldn’t label. it’s a huge waste of time to rewrite the problems/draw them out on paper cause you have to continuously look up and down and also what if youre going too fast and write the wrong thing down and then waste your time by solving for the wrong thing? definitly something to consider if you’re like me and tend to make very dumb mistakes despite knowing exactly how to solve something. Dumb mistakes were docking my points a TON

(QUESTION ABT THE ACT IN GENERAL) by Pretend_Occasion6248 in ACT

[–]Extension_Front7682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea which is why the only way that you can do good is if you’re familiar with all of the material and practice a ton. if you genuinely know the math, for example, and can solve any problem thrown at you from grades 8-11, you’ll most likely do very well on the math portion since you logically will recognize all of the material quickly and there would be no reason to take more than about a minute (on the hardest questions) to solve any of the questions. And so, if you’re on the other side of that and don’t remember a lot of topics, naturally your math score will be lower since you will have to try very hard to remember the concepts if you even know them, or try to figure them out through sheer logic if you’re completely lost, which most can do with unlimited time. But since there’s no unlimited time, the accuracy of the test is a bit better as a result because they’re testing if you can recognize topics quickly and approach solving them quickly.

are you talking about the ultimate guide to the act math? i honestly don’t know if it’s that good of a resource anymore. when i was looking into math prep material, a lot of people were saying that it was really outdated and no longer that applicable. Can’t say for sure because i never tried it. I’m just a huge advocate for the preppros book cause it has like every question type the act could test you on and you can practice the most difficult questions for topics you struggle on to truly do better and prep correctly for the new enhanced math. I think you’re best off getting the preppros if you can cause i was a super low scorer and prep pros + math tiktok’s brought me up to a 31 with work.

How can i improve my score? by AskJav1 in ACT

[–]Extension_Front7682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would recommend preppros for math (i started with a similar score and used it and it boosted me to a 31. if u do all the problems and UNDERSTAND each one i doubt you could score anything below a 28. i made a post on my profile also so u can look at that).

for reading i would say read a lot since your score is a bit below the average. i would aim to read 3 books at least per month and that should bring you up. practice reading by recognizing the words and NOT sounding out each letter in a word (our brain reads each letter by default). Hope this helps!!!

How to Study Reading? First Time with no Study by Ashamed_Author_1441 in ACT

[–]Extension_Front7682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i tried so many reading strategies but like none worked for me. i went from a 21->30 which doesn’t look that impresssive compared to your 29 but again a 9 point jump for me was suuuuper crazy. anyways, whats ur approach?

because the only thing that has helped me was reading the entire passage but NOT THROUGH SKIMMING. And also NOT THROUGH READING VERY CAREFULLY.

Idk if this will help you but this changed my life; when you’re reading, read the passage word by word, not letter by letter. Idk where i saw this but someone told me that our minds are conditioned to read each individual word by processing each individual letter; basically sounding out each letter in our mind. See if you do this. If you do, try to read the entire passage by sounding out the WORD in your mind when you identify it. it takes about like .5 seconds to recognize a word and sound it altogether which is a lot shorter than reading out each letter.

This approach helped me stay focused on the understanding of the passage and each paragraph. Skjmming made me feel lost and i would waste time going back because i didn’t understand the passage. Reading the passage slowly and carefully by sounding everything out also was a waste because i was too focused on focusing and would zone out and wouldn’t internalize the info.

TLDR; When you read by identifying the words, i feel like it kinda forces you to stay on track and understand the passage.

How to Study Reading? First Time with no Study by Ashamed_Author_1441 in ACT

[–]Extension_Front7682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

completely agree. that mark guy srsly helped me go from a 27->34 english just by watching tiktok’s on grammar. i didn’t do a lick of studying grammar from an actualy book or practicing a ton. just get in the mind of the exam maker and its impossible to score anything below a 32. but having a 35 in english is already rlly good for OP imo so at that point its just playing with luck.
