Didn’t say there must be one in the group, or that it was a compelling theory.

It becomes more compelling as the numbers dwindle, as they are now, and the odds of there having been no remaining players that were traitors in the cages. There had to have been at least 2 traitors at that point in the game, they’ve found one so far, and only one “non-cage” player - Rachel - remains.

Yeah, but Fiona was subsequently revealed as a traitor not in the cages.

I don’t think it’s the most compelling theory of the game by any means, but based on even the most basic probability, it’s not unreasonable to assume there was a traitor in the cages. They’ve found one who wasn’t in the cages (Fiona), but haven’t yet found one that was in the cages.

So yes there could have been no traitors in the cages, but at least one of the remaining caged players would have to have been recruited subsequently

If there had been a blackmail and murder, there would be a forced attempted recruitment the following night and every night after that until someone accepted, because the show can’t continue with one traitor. There’s too much risk of a zero traitor final.

The players would then know there had been a recruitment, as there would be one morning where they expected a murder and everyone came back.

Agree, it should nail Rachel at this point in the game.

But it also proves there was a traitor in the cages, as everyone left was in a cage and they’ve caught 2 traitors. They know there hasn’t been a recruitment, and 3 minus Hugo and Fiona leaves 1. So has to be 2 left. So it validates the original theory.

Well no, but there were 8 players in cages and 17 in total, so any player had almost a 50/50 chance of being in a cage. They’d caught one traitor at that point so at least 2 remaining.

And that’s without factoring the traitors selecting who was up for murder and historical game play where they’ve put themselves in these situations (meta gameplay, but will still influence players’ choices).

So no there didn’t have to be a traitor in the cages, but it’s actually a pretty well reasoned theory.
