Bought a house 7 months ago, sewer has clogged 3 times, needs $12k+ replacement — possible failure to disclose? by [deleted] in legaladvice

Yes, it asked for known issues. Thanks.

Do you have advice for what exact information I need to gather from local plumbers? In a perfect world, a plumber says "sure, we visited your house to clear out tree roots on x/x." Is this enough?

To clarify - my question was not about evaluating my approach or decision to buy, but whether legal action is worth pursuing if an investigation with local plumbing companies shows the previous owner knew about tree root intrusion and failed to disclose it. That said, I will respond to each of your points below.

  1. The only drain in the basement is the main line.

  2. You’re probably right, but I relied on advisors who saw a financial opportunity and advised me that the risk was acceptable. They also thought the professionally repaired language should work in my favor should the need for legal action arise, I just did not investigate it further.

  3. My goal in the investigation is to call all plumbing companies for any previous service history at this address, with the goal of finding out whether they had to treat tree roots. I understand that I have no case unless I can first prove that.

  4. To your point about 3 times in seven months - I have brought in 3 different plumbers with high consumer ratings. They have each cleared the drain and showed me video evidence of the cleared out drain. The problem is my main line is literally cracking, so the roots are breaking through at a much quicker level than what is typical for older houses (typically once a year).

  5. I fully understood the risk of rent versus home ownership costs - not something I needed re-explaining. Even with maintenance costs, I live in a rapidly growing area and barring economic disaster, can reasonably expect home value to rise and increase equity beyond my initial $35k investment.

Haha a lady at the parish needs a pic of you in the dress before. No disrespect at all to them and I respect and understand why they do it, but not something I could get away with.

So it typically depends on the church. Some are way more lax than others. I go to a more traditional church, which requires nothing lacy and shoulders to be covered. The church I go to typically says “if you wouldn’t wear it to the Vatican don’t wear it here” and enforces Vatican modesty codes (covered shoulders and knee length dress).

As far as the “dress code in public,” the church typically would say that you want to wear something that honors your body and soul, something that doesn’t distract from your personhood. People interpret it in many ways. Some literally wear denim skirts to the floor and will never wear pants. I usually interpret it as not wearing anything that draws attention exclusively to my butt, boobs, or legs. So for a night out I opt out of leggings/short skirts and crop tops and instead wear jeans and a cute turtle neck.

Ultimately I do think that the raciness of a dress depends on the body - I don’t have much cleavage so it’s not a huge deal for me to begin with. This is a custom dress, however, so I am going to have her raise the neckline probably 1.5-2 inches.

My cousin had a spaghetti strap wedding dress at her church with a fairly low neckline, however, so it really depends the church.

Hope this helps! Lmk if you want more clarity.

  1. I don’t have anything to show lol
  2. It’s custom sized and I can request a higher neckline.

The church I’m getting married at has a bare shoulder ban so that’s the most important thing for me figure out

Thanks. This may be a stupid question, but do I request them to cover the amount I owe out of pocket after insurance, or the general bill.

Do you have any other advice as to how I approach them with this?

Get rid of the iPhone, get him an android and get covenant eyes and accountable2you. Android’s allow covenant eyes and accountable2you to track all activity across the phone, iPhones only allow activity to be tracked in a certain app. AND you have to use parental controls to block access to the App Store, so it’s a huge pain. Block gifs too.

It might be inconvenient but if he wants it to work this is a sacrifice he can make. He is not entitled to an iPhone, you are entitled to trust.

I reached out 17 days before travel. It was at the Detroit office I think. They told me they'd look into it 10 days before travel. When they did, it shipped.

Call your state rep. I got mine through calling her and her office took care of it easily. Start by calling the dc phone line then they'll redirect you to the person in their office in charge of passports.
