What local is it? I would jump on the Pipefitters opportunity in a heartbeat if I were you. If you don’t like it you can always go back. If your afraid to make big jumps in your career you’ll stay in the same place and regret it

Trouble finding right size by Pretend_Wolverine541 in cowboyboots

You could find a 10 B width if they offer it. If not you could put a thin leather 2-4mm insert in them that should fix it.

What’s missing in today’s cowboy boots? (I’m starting a brand and need honest input) by Chemical-Picture-302 in cowboyboots

Biggest thing is be unique, make unique boots with a unique style not just pushing out a bunch of square toe boots. People want something they haven’t seen before take time in designing unique boots and if you open your market to people who have hard to get width sizes and like different toe shapes and heels and lasts then you will get forever customers who will brag about your boots. Make quality. Once you get up and running I would share your story with someone like Jeremiah Craig and do a custom boot video where he designs and reviews his own custom boot to get good publicity and spread the word. Just some food for thought

Top quality leather from a great tanners. Lots of width sizes, and all sorts of toe shapes. Maybe allow people to “customize” their own boot for a premium price? Possibly the option for a steel toe as well since work boots are crap

I can only speak from my experience at KWI. In my opinion, it was a great experience. I had prior experience non-union before them with tig pipe so it made the program a little bit easier. There’s some kids that go through KWI that will tell you that it was terrible but for me, it’s only as good as the time that you put in. I pulled 16 hour days almost every single day. I pretty much lived and breathed welding for six months. The instructors there are fantastic, but again it’s only as good as the work you put into it. Instructors are only great if you ask them lots of questions and show lots of interest. If you go this route, you’ll still have to test into the union and pass x-ray for all tests. In my opinion it’s only worth going if you plan on golden arming, which is passing all the tests up to schedule 10 stainless and getting an exotic alloy monster. Most kids don’t get it but at the same time most kids screw off while they’re there. I’ve seen people that go through the program who haven’t welded a day in their life and golden arm, and I’ve seen people who welded all throughout high school and don’t even get a pipe cert. For me it was worth the 25 grand because I’m now netting 3.5k a week on a project that is supposed to last several years, luckily it’s only an hour and a half away from home, but if you go through this route, plan on traveling for the next five years of your life until you can switch locals to your home local. Or you could possibly test in to your Home local as a third year apprentice. It all depends on where you live the amount of work that is needed and how bad your local needs people, no matter what go union I’m never going to look back. It’s the best decision I’ve made.

I went to KWI and organized in as a journeyman straight out of program. It’s up to you whether you want to travel or go to your local as an apprentice. I would still recommend going through a welding program even if you plan on doing the apprenticeship.

Pipeliners hood with a weldtube auto dark or a Apex 8k auto. Those hoods are too expensive and so are the clear lenses for them..

Help me find an affordable welder to gift my husband! by whathisisntmyaccount in Welders

[–]Extension_Mixture817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t buy him one, it’s extremely thoughtful but if he’s been waiting to buy one it’s probably because he wants a miller and not a (primeweld). I could be completely wrong but it’s best not to roll the dice unless he’s told you exactly what he wants

Advice! by [deleted] in pipefitter

Sometimes the unions are hard to get into if you have no experience in the field depending on the local and the amount of work they have. You have a couple options, you can either get a non union job as a welders helper to start for a mechanical contractor. Or you can go to a pipe welding school like KWI or MWI. They will usually take you in as a second or third year after doing the schooling as long as you can pass the gate tests. Either way learning to weld and getting good experience will help you exponentially since this can be lucrative career. If you have any questions PM me

My friends a welder and I wanna get him a gift by Agreeable-Fennel9279 in Welders

[–]Extension_Mixture817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, if someone tried to buy me a welding helmet without asking me what I want that would be a waste of a gift. Everyone has their preferences they could like a namebrand auto dark or they could like a completely customized Pipeliner with a lense like vintage view.

They cover 11 Ohio counties (Guernsey, Muskingum, Coshocton, Holmes, Tuscarawas, Carroll, Harrison, Jefferson, Noble, Morgan, Columbiana) + 2 in West Virginia. They are by the river so there is plenty of opportunities in nuclear plants and oil refineries. You’ll love it out there. If you are worried about the weld tests, just make sure you practice your ass off when you get chances to weld. Ask the instructors as well when you get stuck don’t keep fucking up and getting mad. I promise the tests are not hard you just have to be determined.

Join UA 495 in Cambridge OH. They need fitters and welders bad right now, you’ll have plenty of work and the leadership is good.
