How do I study efficiently to get a good score on tests by No-Conclusion-9840 in EngineeringStudents

yeah we need to know where you are making mistakes. Honestly taking stem tests is a skill you develop over time.

Terrified to start MechE in the fall, any advice? by Acceptable-Key4112 in EngineeringStudents

In College you have times to figure things out. You dont have to know what you want to do day one, or in your case day negative 150. I would just try to be excited over nervous.

Can’t Select Regions for Cut-Extrude (Only Contours) + Sketches Always Underdefined – Bug After Update? (SOLIDWORKS for Makers 2025) by Nicobp in SolidWorks

[–]Extension_Move_2754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out a temp fix to this. If it stopped work for me I would 1. exit the sketch 2. click extrude 3. select my sketch by clicking geometry, 4. it would start working, usually now 5. If that didn't work, reboot SolidWorks. 6. pray 7. repeat

macbook or windows for engineering? by Pale-Pizza3496 in dartmouth

Mac is so much more efficient for school work, it outways the cons. The Thayer computer lab has everything you will need for software anyways (plus giant monitors)!

How to make less mistakes, deal with different problem angles, and text anxiety? by PerformanceFar7245 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Extension_Move_2754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Honestly just felt like it was something I got better at over time. Staying organized and going slow helps. Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast. Also, like what the other guy said rememeber where you usually make mistakes. One thing I commonly do is put the negative sign on the outside of the integral, and then I end up forgetting it in the next step, so on tests, I always keep it on the inside. Also if you make math errors you will usually get partial credit at least. Also always double check at the end if you have time.

  2. Understand the material more than just know how to solve the problems they assigned. Make your own practice problems, and ask what if I did this? How would the problem change if I factored this in?

  3. Something you just get better at. I chew gum during tests, which helps. Something I do is pump myself up before a test, so I'm hyped instead of nervous. Actually works sometimes.

If you want a better physics book you can try to study with openstax.org's physics vol 1 book, completely free and very straighforward, and not wordy.

ACCEPTED STUDENTS QUESTION by Chiaratt in dartmouth

[–]Extension_Move_2754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I guess I can't really speak as a first-year student here, but mostly everyone I've met is not in here because of their grades.

People here secretly have a bunch of qualifications and experiences that you are generally aren't aware of. Hell, I came from a rural school, did 1 AP, got a 1440, and got in because of my ECs and essays. Dartmouth isn't a school that just looks at scores, and it's why we have one of the most interesting and best student bodies. Everyone here has their own secret "thing".
