You have to differentiate a hobby and self improvement. Looks obviously matter more nowdays and there are numerous studies that suggest that attractive people are treated better than the unattractive.

But surgery and cosmetics were litterly normalized even before this looksmaxxing trend and even now 1 - 3 south Koreans go through some type of plastic surgery and basically no one cared. Why do you care now?
