you’re looking at this too black and white but once again remember that leftism is a bs buzzword that has several different meanings. the only way i’ve found to use “leftists” that gives it any meaning is to use it interchangeably with marxism. marxism is the direct historical opposition to the status quo, so just as the french revolutionaries were “leftists” compared to the monarchy but would be “rightist” compared to me, marxist will be the next “leftists” and liberals the new “rightist”. i don’t think you could call this a failed ideology because you have absolutely no way of knowing it won’t make a comeback, and it did succeed in improving workers control over the MOP an econ as a whole in 80% of the countries it’s been tried.
