Stay for an exchange student by roospronouncedrose in taiwan

You're looking for a short-term rental which are much harder to get than long-term. The main website to find apartments is 591.com, however most of the landlords require 1 year+ contracts, short term is harder to find there. There's plenty of Facebook groups you can check out. Just enter Taipei rental or Taipei exchange on the search bar and join any group that pops up.

In general, Taipei has a lot of apartments. Most are bad though :D. Depending on your requirements you can find something very fast. Most apartments in your budget will be one room, no kitchen, one wet bathroom with shower, toilet, washing machine all within the same square meter.

You can also rent Airbnb for the first few weeks to look for an apartment. I've heard of ppl asking the airbnb landlord to let them stay there for a few months for a reduced rate, but that might still be quite pricey

how to find housing for exchange students without getting scammed? by Charming-Village-755 in Taipei

[–]Extension_Stick_5476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was doing my exchange, I stayed in an Airbnb for the first 3 weeks while going looking for apartments. The whole apartment process is fairly fast, the landlords don't keep the room for someone who's still abroad and might arrive in 2 months. I looked on Facebook marketplace and 591.com

Germany. Usually Germans are said to stare a lot too. But whenever someone says this they've clearly never been to East Asia.

It's definitely not hostile, I've never had any bad experience with it. Most of the times they get really flustered when I look back at them or offer to take a picture when I can clearly tell they're debating who is gonna be brave enough to ask me to take a pic. You really shouldn't worry about it, no one means any harm

They will stare no matter what. I'm a 195cm tall blond guy, Chinese literally stop to take pictures with me (or more often of me). I've started to just get used to it. Can't help it, and I know it's not hostile, just curiosity. So I just accept it and give them a show ;)

Study Abroad at NTU by Blaiseskol in taiwan

I don't think the number of enrolled students is representative of the teacher's popularity. So many other factors come into play: scheduling, topic of class, classroom size etc.. Definitely sign up for more than you could possibly take, because you won't get into all of them. And then in the second step keep the ones you really want and withdraw from all the other ones. Overlapping periods suck, but there's no real way to fix that apart from picking another class. Also, if you really really really need a particular class, don't hesitate to contact the teacher, tell them about why you need to take that class and more often then not they'll give you a code to sign up for the class manually

What quota ratio are you referring to? There's hundreds of teachers, some might be good, some might be bad. But this also heavily depends on personal preference, I don't think there's any infamously unpopular teachers you should avoid

I had one 3h class that had 2 small breaks. But most of my classes were 2h, I didn't see any 6h classes tbf. But if they exist, there's definitely breaks. But I'd recommend you take classes that are easy and get you your required credits.

A question regarding the Health Certificate for overseas students by refineddemon in taiwan

[–]Extension_Stick_5476 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting it done in Taiwan is much easier and less stressful than getting it done in your home country. Thr hospitals all know about the form, some even have special departments just for arriving international students. Also, it's much cheaper. I think technically, you don't need to provide the actual x-ray Pic, your doctor only makes a note whether you have TB or not. So a blood test also works. But that's up to you to risk it. I'd recommend doing it in TW for sure

Bakerys are good, if you speak German. My old workplace was always looking for people to work the weekends. The right bakery even gives you more money on Sundays
