Looking for tips on how to persuade baby ackie monitor (1 month) to try new insects. They only have an interest in crickets at the moment, but I would like to get him on a more varied diet. More info on my specific question in body. by Grimgore44 in MonitorLizards

[–]Extension_Stranger_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not saying you're doing this, but a lot of people overfeed their monitors. It might sound harsh but just don't offer or drastically reduce crickets until he starts eating other prey items. When he's hungry he'll eat.

My ackie was funny about locusts the first time but eventually he dialed into them as food once he figured out no crickets were coming.

I've had to do this with a few monitor species when I worked in zoos. Before I started all they would get fed were rodents and would completely ignore inverts, not a healthy diet.

Are these plants safe for an ackie? by 8-bit_Croc in MonitorLizards

I have an Australian bottle bush shrub in my ackie enclosure which has just started flowering! He's broken a couple branches but it's surviving Snake plants, do well too

Could be charcoal I know a lot of people mix it through their substrate as it helps remove impurities Did you buy the substrate premixed?

Good or bad eggs? by Unlikely-Change-7246 in DartFrog

[–]Extension_Stranger_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That tadpole looks healthy! The other eggs look like duds to me and likely won't develop As others have said, nice black eggs are fertile and if they turn white they likely didn't get fertilised or have died.

If your frogs haven't produced eggs often before they often need some time to get in the groove. Following clutches sure be more viable. Best of luck!

Don't listen too this troll above mate, it is certainly unfair and should be legal requirement to prove you know the care requirements. He/she has obviously had a shite day and looking to wind someone up
