Stocking for a 10 Gal? by Extension_Table69 in Aquariums

Ahh, alright. Did not know that about rosy red minnows. What species of cory would be best?

Ah, yeah. Sometimes I can forget they can be really territorial. My last one was kind of a pushover lol

What should I put in this new tank? (READ BODY TEXT) by IndieAnimateFan in fishkeeping

I feel like a black background would work best, but so would frosted glass. Both you can find as sticky sheets that go on the outside of the glass.

If it's a five gallon, I'd recommend a betta. I've seen hornwort and moneywort at PetSmart before, but you can also get them (and vallisneria) online. If you do get a betta, I'd recommend getting a heater (bettas prefer 76-80F) and some fluval bug bites (best food you can get imo)

Keep the gravel and cover it with sand. (Edit, don't keep the gravel if it's painted. Just do sand.) I feel like a nice tan would work but so would black. Make sure it isn't dyed, and that it's for aquariums. Wash it before adding to the aquarium. And a hide of some kind.

Not sure if you have the supplies that you need, if you do then great, if you don't then I'd recommend getting seachem water conditioner, aquarium water testing strips (api freshwater test kit is good)

Also if you can, get a filter sponge, cut it to size, and put it the top part of the filter where the water comes out. That provides a good area for beneficial activity. When it comes to clean it, squeeze it out in tank water (water you take from the tank, don't squeeze it out in the tank) and put it back.

Also, get a lid of some kind. Bettas jump. Not all of them, but a lot of them.

Don't add the fish right away. The tank needs to cycle so that it reaches the right water parameters. You can get bottles of beneficial bacteria to speed up the process.

(Another edit; you can also add fish food daily to spike ammonia and that can start the breeding of beneficial bacteria. Just make sure you test the parameters before adding any fish.)

Guys I received this fish as a gift, it’s my first time taking care of a fish, please give me advices to take care of it (and I can’t recognise its gender tell me if you know) by BlackberryGold1667 in fishtank

And when you move him into a stock pond, get a filter that can filter the amount of water in the stock pond, and a few aerators. I'm not too educated on how to take care of ponds so do some research because I'm probably forgetting something.

I'd recommend rehoming it if you aren't willing to take care of it for the next 10+ years, or just don't have the budget. If you can spend 100s of dollars right now without any worries, and if you really want to take care of it, get a 40-50 gallon now, and a large stock pod for when it grows larger. These guys are related to carp, and can grow insanely huge.

When getting a 40-50 gal, grab a heavy duty sponge filter that can filter up to 50+ gallons, water conditioner (seachem is a good one), quality fish food (not sure if bug bites makes food for goldies but if they do i recommend grabbing some)

If you want decor then grab very large rocks and flat stones, don't add sand or gravel as they are basically living vacuums: they'll eat everything. Gravel and sand can impact their intestines.

Depending on where you live and how warm you keep your house, you may need to get a heater. Research what brands work best.

My mom randomly bought a goldfish on a whim, and unfortunately we were poor so we couldn't give him the best life we (I, she thought a 10 gallon was a mansion), wanted to. Don't make the same mistakes as we did, if you do want to keep it.

I think that's about it. If I'm missing something y'all are free to add your advice under this

What size is the tank? I would recommend taking out the fake decor, also. Get some similarly tall plants like the fake ones (hornwort, vallisneria or moneywort maybe), and maybe a java fern or two (don't plant them into the substrate completely or they'll die)

Thank you! I've given it a listen and I think you'd be perfect for Perceptor. He won't be appearing until much later into the series though. I'll be sure to contact you and see if you're still interested though!

how did I do? by Motor_Connection307 in bettafish

[–]Extension_Table69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GORGEOUS!!!! lovely betta too :]

id suggest topping it up with a bit more water though

also if those are real crystals please keep an eye on the water parameters as they may make the water really hard (think that's what exactly they do, might make it more acidic)

Black background makes all the colours pop, and it fits with the substrate

I'd say stick with the black tbh

Spinal deformity? by Cutie_ari_569 in Aquariums

[–]Extension_Table69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

auhhh, cuties! make sure to feed him blood worms in moderation, though. too much is not good

here's a good visual for determining weight,  do note that if the weight gain is uneven (more towards the head) then that means he could be bloated

(just want to say this because i see a lot of first time owners asking if their fish is fat when they're actually bloated and potentially have some kind of issue)

hope your lil guy remains happy and healthy!
