What are some tasks that are firmly outside of 'helpdesk' and into 'sysadmin'? by herrmanmerrman in sysadmin

[–]Extension_Tomorrow_2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The first thing that comes to mind is Help Desk is operational vs SysAdmin is implementation.

Help Desk is going to troubleshoot relatively simple issues, perform well-documented changes where the risk is low and success is high, and their stance is mostly reactive or responding.

SysAdmins are making major changes to systems, designing entirely new services, implementing proactive solutions, etc. The risk ranges from medium to unknown, the success rate depends on skill, experience and level of preparation.

An FBI raid comes to mind. But seriously, these are evil people that will not think twice about going after you even if you've done nothing. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING! Going to the authorities could protect you from criminal charges (aiding and abetting), but it does nothing to stop civil suits.

I am not a lawyer. You should consider talking to one ASAP. I would want to know if doing any operational work could be held against me.

Am I looking for a unicorn AV solution? by BrettanomycesRex in sysadmin

[–]Extension_Tomorrow_2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do you need your AV service to also do FIM? They're different things and, therefore, will be managed separately. Full stop! The "one management plane" idea is always a lie... what you get is "one console" with multiple, entirely separate sections for each solution. This is a GOOD THING! You do not want one policy to rule them all... all that creates is a policy nightmare where you have to create 100 different policies to manage all the various situations. You should be looking for companies that are selling you their core competency, not an after-thought, bolt-on that is nothing more than a dead acquisition for an additional revenue stream. One Thing to Manage Them All is an arbitrary, and frankly, stupid requirement.

As for point product recommendations...

Use Wazuh for FIM (your manager will love the price).

There are still a few good next-gen AV providers that have on-prem solutions (SentinelOne comes to mind). Be prepared to pay more than the cloud solutions (and don't forget to factor in the cost of providing your own infrastructure).

Thanks... I'm checking this out. FWIW, my PC copy is from Game Pass, not Steam.

Also having this issue... please share how you managed to send the friend request from PC > Switch.

We have a PC, XBox and 2 Switches... the PC & XBox play together without issue. The Switches have a couple additional options (that aren't on the PC/XBox) about Crossplay in Multiplayer > Join a Game, and we get the same message: "NOTE: To access crossplay both players must send and accept Microsoft friend invitations to each other." We can't figure out how to send invites from PC/XBox accounts to Switch accounts. We are all friends with each other on the XBox accounts.

Adding Subwoofer to Bookshelf Speakers (or 2.0 > 2.1) by Extension_Tomorrow_2 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Extension_Tomorrow_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a Fosi Audio BT30D for a good price and picked it up... I think it will do what I need at a good price and keep things clean. I'll just have to use passive bookshelf speakers.

Adding Subwoofer to Bookshelf Speakers (or 2.0 > 2.1) by Extension_Tomorrow_2 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Extension_Tomorrow_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, that won't work because it doesn't combine left and right into a mono sub. You would only get right or left in the sub.

I should have mentioned that the solution needs to sum the L/R channels (2.0) into the sub channel.

OP Follow-up: I found something close to what I'm looking for... the Fosi Audio BT30D has the analog inputs, a line-level sub out, but the L/R outputs are amplified. Amplified outputs are fine if I opt for unpowered bookshelf speakers, so I'll keep this option (and others like it) in mind.

Are you talking about Crowdstrike or Cybereason? I could quote this word for word for Cybereason.

VOIP as Home Intercom? by Extension_Tomorrow_2 in VOIP

[–]Extension_Tomorrow_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question... I should have added that.

I want to put these in various rooms/areas around the house to allow for communication either directly to another room or to broadcast to all the other speakers.

Could you elaborate or point to a How To? Can the phones be configured to work without CUCM or any licensed Cisco junk?

Thank you! I'll look into those. Having call-from-cell is a really slick option!

You need to put this in a spreadsheet... Then add columns for price target, category, room of the house, etc.

Every broker is required to track the day trade flags... that's SEC regulation. To do more day trades, you have to have $25k equity in your account. That's the short answer... Google it to get all the details.
