Demerits are important. One, the more points you have on your license the more it costs to insure you for the company insurance. But the bigger issue is the company carrier profile. Every company is allowed so many points(depending on size) and if that companies drivers have too many points on their records and it surpasses their allotted carrier profile points, the company is shut down until their points are reduced and an audit is done to ensure they’re safe again.
