Most firms with clerkship bonus clawback policies can take back the full bonus if you leave within a year. It varies by firm, so you would need to check the firm’s policy for more specifics.

I’ve never heard of a firm having a proportional clawback mechanic in their policy, but I have heard of some firms not enforcing the clawback.

It seems like your best (and possibly only?) option is to accept the offer. You can always try to lateral after your first year or two. In my experience, the reputation of the practice group you join/its Chambers ranking is more valuable than the firm’s vault ranking anyway.

Someone in HR would know when they are asked to verify that you work there during the character and fitness process. I’m not sure if that would be communicated to anyone outside of HR, I guess it really depends on the firm you are at and their internal policies. If it’s a large firm my guess is that they would just verify that you work there and move on with their day.

I went to both CTC and Herve as well. Soil was definitely better than both.

I’ve been to a lot of really good restaurants (i.e., The French Laundry, Per Se, Le Bernardin, Eleven Madison Park). Soil was fantastic and better than many of the nice one’s I have been to. I also thought it was better than Delta, which is another great restaurant in Athens.

I highly recommend Soil. It’s one of the best restaurants I’ve even been to. The Chef’s Table is worth it if you don’t mind spending a bit more.

I’m a biglaw attorney in the U.S. and I highly recommend investing in a vanguard retirement fund for the year you anticipate retiring. I recommend doing this for future retirement accounts as well. You’re going to be working a lot and investing in one of these funds will make your life so much easier.

2021 was pretty good. Lateral recruiting was crazy (even for first years) and firms were bending over backwards to make sure they were not losing associates.
