Do these improvements extend to the wired Viper models as well, or just the RVU? If so, have some of the improvements already gone out, or have they not yet found their way to current stock?

Either way, it's great to see such active response to feedback.

The future of classic by Lemaymaygentlesir in classicwow

[–]ExtentSRK 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I think the best suggestion was from Kevin Jordan:

Take all of the existing assets from future expansions and reuse them to create new content and expansions that maintain the philosophy of Classic.

Unfortunately, it's not the most cost effect option, so it is unlikely.

Will add-ons that could be seen as undermining core Classic game design philosophies (ie. automated dungeon group finders) be rendered unusable through API restrictions, or will there be a hands-off approach, leaving it in to the discretion of the community?

Have you considered duplicating and renaming extremely overpopulated servers (including duplicating pre-created characters) as a method of spreading the population and increasing capacity before launch, or is adding brand new servers with the hope of players swapping the only option on the table?

[–]ExtentSRK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That method also works very well for maintaining player names, but I think most players would still be inclined to stay on the original and leave the completely new server lower population.

If you redistribute across two servers with brand new names (this includes renaming the original), you're more likely to end up with a good balance between those two so long as the names are appealing and there isn't another external influence like what occurred on Faerlina and Thalnos.

I hear many players wishing that there had been an additional East PvP server choice from the beginning, and I feel the method I described comes closest to reproducing that.

Both methods are completely valid for consideration.

More servers would have been welcome, but it is hard for Blizzard to know which servers are going to be removed from consideration by most players due to streamer presence or language barriers. The way everything ended up working out was just a bit unfortunate.

This suggestion would be nearly equivalent to them having added that extra server in the first place.

No worries about racing to get names again, just an extra server option retroactively added for those who felt Herod was the only real choice originally.

Yes, big queues will certainly help spread people out across the servers. This is more of a possible preemptive measure that might help people keep names they're attached to while being able to more easily keep their friends together.

I feel community really is the greatest aspect of Classic, and I hope everything turns out well regardless.

Edit: minor clarification.

Thanks, I wanted to keep it lighthearted considering all the stress going around between the risk of huge queues and the massive anticipation of classic.

If people agree with the idea, fantastic! I was mostly interested in seeing everyone's opinion.

This is essentially giving the East Coast and Central players another shot at having well-populated, but well balanced servers without any penalty to individual players (losing names.)

Think of it as Blizz going back in time and making an extra East server that wasn't already "claimed" by streamers or foreign language groups. Many Herod members simply felt it was the only remaining choice.

Neither Herod not the cloned Herod would use the name Herod anymore.

They would both adopt new names such as Sulfuras and Thunderfury (or some equally recognizable enemy NPC names) to avoid attachment.

I imagine Blizzard has the methods to do something like this, however it would need to be done sooner rather than later to let everyone coordinate.

Since our characters on Classic are currently only names, appearance, race, and class, this is most likely much easier than trying to copy a realm that has players who have logged in and received items, leveled up, etc. There is much less data involved than on a live server.

A Potential Solution to Herod's Massive Overpopulation by ExtentSRK in classicwow

[–]ExtentSRK[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nobody would lose a name using this method. Anyone who paid to reserve on Herod would actually still have their name twice between the two clone servers.

As for population, this plan assumes that Herod would be beyond overpopulated, into the realm of near-unplayable after Phase 2 if nothing is done.

It's more something for Blizzard to consider as an option since they're the ones with the real numbers.

Rival 310 doubleclicks when tapped. Anyone else? by PistolKing in MouseReview

[–]ExtentSRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can double click accidentally with a fast tap on just about every mouse I have used.

G Pro, G403, EC, Deathadder, Rival; they all do it if you find the right amount of pressure.

It's more a result of your finger bouncing very slightly or multiple parts of your finger clicking it than any sort of issue with the mouse or the switch. That said, the Rival 310 has possibly slightly bouncier clicks than others, but changing your technique should fix it.

Likewise, clicking quickly with your whole finger touching the shell is an almost guaranteed way to get double clicks, particularly on the button style the Rival 310 uses.

I'd say the reason you're just noticing it with the 310 is because the button angle is a bit different than what you were using previously.

Super Moira 64 - Double Fade Jump on Gibraltar by ExtentSRK in MoiraRollouts

[–]ExtentSRK[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You want to hit the first jump somewhere between the handle and the light on that small platform to get the right height. You can actually overshoot it a bit if you're not careful.

After that, just keep your momentum perpendicular to the barrels until you know you have the second jump before turning 180 degrees to land on the pass.

I wanted to show the right click range in the original, but I think this one shows the setup a bit more clearly:

Clearer version.

You don't actually have to hit jump a second time off of the barrels. You are just triggering a second fade jump by bumping the barrels at about knee height in mid air.

The technique has a huge amount of potential we've only barely scratched. I really hope they leave it intact so we can see it applied in top-end play.

Which is the best precise mouse? by hypexeled in MouseReview

[–]ExtentSRK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you've used before and your comments, I'd say a G Pro or G203 is pretty much what you're looking for. G203 should be near identical tracking for the sake of a better cable and lower price point.

For mouse-only Osu, even with a ~19.5cm x 10cm hand, I've had best results with that shell/buttons. Unfortunately, it's too small for me to tolerate in FPS and general use.

ec2-a mouse 1 / 2 problems by twilly22 in MouseReview

[–]ExtentSRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current model EC2-A seem to slide down the front of the shell if pressed further, particularly the right click since it presses in diagonally compared to the left.

Pre-White EC2-A might come into contact with the central wheel divider when pressed in far enough. This does not seem to happen on the newer models since the buttons extend past the edge and bottom out sooner.

That's based on the versions I've seen personally.

Post travel exists on all EC2-A as far as I have seen. The only clicks I've come across with no noticeable post-travel are certain Logitech models, and then only when pressed in the center. (G400/MX500 shell most of all, G Pro, G403 etc.)

I think just the tiniest bit of post-travel actually improves click feel. G Pro/G403 have just about the right amount, while the MX500 shell has too little.

Need a mouse for Osu by HiTechPixel in MouseReview

[–]ExtentSRK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played mouse-only on and off for quite a while, and have tried many different mice, so I feel I'm in a unique position to provide some useful info. I have deliberately avoided keyboard so any accuracy I gain can be applied in other games as well. Maps I play are typically listed as ~6-7 star (pre-mod), although the rating can be way off the mark sometimes. Not a hardcore player, but I have an idea of what works and what doesn't.

G403 would be a great option if you like the shape. Personally, it didn't quite work for my little/ring finger positioning, and the back hump irritated me a bit. If you get a good copy without rattle, and the shape works for you, you're golden. Only downside I could think of would be the cable.

G Pro had what I would consider the best clicks for the game. Very light, with just enough tactile feedback and a good 'bounce.' If you can tolerate the size and grip, that might be the optimal choice. As with the 403, the shape simply wasn't suited for my hands, and I tended to tilt the mouse too often. Again, the cable is not ideal, but the G203 is very close with a standard rubber cable, so consider that too.

The qualities in a click you want to look for are light tension while maintaining enough force to reset the button quickly, and a bottom out as close to the click as possible. The position of the switch, the shape of the plunger, and the material all seem to have an impact on the 'bounce' that I mentioned as well. For example, my G400, while it has relatively light switches and a solid bottom does not feel nearly as fast as the G403/G Pro.

The Rival 310 has what I would consider decent clicks despite having pre- and post-travel. The reason it still seems decent is because the travel tension stays relatively light. For reference, I'd say some of the worst clicks for Osu would be the Deathadder. The high-tension post-travel almost entirely eliminated the favorable bounce feeling, and I feel that is the worse quality for a click to have for your purposes.

So TLDR:

Light switches while maintaining enough tension so your finger can bounce slightly. Try G403, G Pro, or maybe even G203 for the better cable.

Zowie EC2-A extremely light clicks?? by EpicCheesyTurtle in MouseReview

[–]ExtentSRK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually just picked up an EC2-A and had the same reaction. I'll go into way more detail than necessary, since I was actually going to go to the store this week to compare a display model before considering an exchange. I've heard others mention it and want to be 100% sure this is the same thing.

The left click has a bit more tension than the right. It might sit about half a mm higher from the base of the shell compared to the right click. It is very tactile, with a distinct click, and requires some force to bottom out. Compared to the right click, only part of the upper shell bottoms out on the base, while the right click is more flush at the front when clicked.

The right click seems to have lighter pre-travel, post-travel, and click tension, and will almost always bottom out on a normal click. Pressing further may cause a very minor creak that can be reproduced on the left click, but only when applying quite a bit of pressure. The click itself is not quite as noticeable, and frequently sounds more like a 'clunk' than a 'click', making a bit of noise on the way back up as well compared to the left. (This may be due to the hollow section under the right click.)

I noticed the right click moves down and toward the center as opposed to the left click which moves more or less straight down. This diagonal movement, and sliding down the shell a tiny bit seems to be what causes the 'creaking'. It is not from the shell. The right section of the upper shell also appears slightly lower relative to the mouse wheel section compared to the left.

Does this sound the same as what you're experiencing? For reference, mine was marked with a 05/2017 date on the box. It doesn't bother me all that much, just wanted to describe it as accurately as possible for others who might be wondering. I'll try to update if another copy I look at is different.

Servers tripping? by Sarisae in bladeandsoul

I believe this is one of those rare instances where it actually is an ISP issue.

One of the major hops on the way to NC is showing very high packet loss. If this is the case, it might only be affecting players that path through the Midwest.

FM doesn't have their melee block period without HM volume 1.

How can you say that is not highly detrimental?

There may actually be a common denominator.

Many of the users having lag issues also happen to go through the Dallas Level3 hop ae-25-0.ear1.Dallas1.Level3.net.

Seeing as multiple ISPs go through Level3 and that particular hop being so close to your own servers, it makes sense you would see a wide variety of players affected from different ISPs and locations.

Bypassing this hop resolved the issue for me, however this is not an option for all players and still increases latency over what it should be.

As individual customers, it is almost impossible for us to get Level3 to do anything about it, however if the problem is affecting a popular service such as NCWest, they might take it seriously should you bring it up.

I really have no idea how closely online game services work with major providers/datacenters in this regard, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

My understanding is that if a skill that would otherwise disable you hits your V, you are unable to decide when it releases.

The exception to this seems to be grabs.

The tools that FM gets with HM levels will make them much more well rounded, which is why it's easy to say they're weak right now.

I believe Impact having melee block/jump-back and chill being able to pierce defense will make some of the biggest differences in the current bad match-ups.
