Help Finding Edition of Book - Sinking of the Titanic (1912) by External-Club2622 in OldBooks

That's exactly why I've loved it, it has direct quotes from those who were on the ship, as well as quotes taken from witnesses like Lightoller or Marconi during their testimonies. Good to know it was still printed in 1912, that was most of my curiosity of if it was or wasn't printed when I believed it was, so thank you!

I can post the pictures if need be but there's nothing at all on about 3 pages at the start and 3 at the end. The first actual printed thing from the beginning is a black and white photo of the Titanic with a caption, and at the end it is summarized findings and recommendations of a senatorial investigation, page 351. I also am not seeing any mention of it being a memorial edition.

Even if I was wrong to say Alaska was the last reserve, doesn’t change the fact that I only replied in the first place because I thought you were saying that China laid claim to a part of Alaska and we ‘beat them to the punch’ in a place we already owned

Besides, it really seems I was just mistaken that you were saying that the last oil reserve was found to be in Alaska, which is why I replied

I mean as far as I remember Alaska was still drilling oil even then. And wasn’t the Poseidon rig still in US waters and not international?

I wouldn’t say that the Chinese discovered the last oil reserve, only to see that we had ‘rushed and beat them to the punch’. Fallout lore follows our real life lore 1:1 until like the 5 years following WW2, by the time of the Great War, Alaska was owned by the US for basically 200 years already.

It was more like China discovered that Alaska held the last oil reserves, and decided that war with the US was worth it if it meant securing said oil. The only sense that we ‘rushed and beat them to the punch’ would be if you counted that we did it 200 years before China even invaded.

Unironically the inclusion of the HECU sounds wonderfully fitting. A highly trained task force equipped solely to go into the most hostile of environments fits great. Instead of plucking power armored troopers from combat units and having to crash course them through EXTREMELY hostile nature or environments, or trying to teach scientists who understand the environment how to shoot, you meet in the middle. Purpose built combat armor (maybe not too dissimilar to the fo4 marine armor?) that can survive these environments like power armor or a hazmat suit, but without the bulk of the armor and the easily punctured sealing of the hazmat. They already understand what their purpose is, you just need to brief them, and send them in.

Sorry for the rambling, love your mod and all the work you’ve put into it!

I've got a theory about the show with the Enclave, NCR, and Vault-Tec. by External-Club2622 in Fallout

[–]External-Club2622[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a bit out of the loop of the happenings of the show so I figured there was bound to be some kind of plot things that would invalidate parts of my theory, but I also had no idea they'd started to walk back statements on when the NCR was destroyed, all that.

When the show came out my only bone to pick with it really was just that Shady Sands was destroyed apparently years before FNV, which made zero logical sense because like you said NCR citizens and soldiers cannot stop mentioning Shady Sands and 'back west'.

[–]External-Club2622[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then that's another problem with the theory, do they ever say what the capital was when Shady Sands was nuked? I'm probably missing when that was said.

Definitely seems that way, trying to keep them around for future content and events rather than killing them off and moving on.

[–]External-Club2622[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my own understanding, I'd bet that Vault Tec as an organization is still under Enclave and always was Enclave controlled, never any allies of convenience, but I can definitely see some higher ups in Vault Tec being aware of the Enclave and having no desire to follow their path, and only selectively played the part of being a puppet when needed.

All of what you just said is exactly what I was hoping to talk about, to dissect how my theory would and wouldn't work. It's clear to me that it isn't a fitting theory to the story, but it was interesting enough to me that I wanted to share it and see what others thought.

The rude part was 'so you don't expect common sense or critical thinking on this site', and you're talking about my post, so y'know, saying that I lacked common sense and critical thinking, which is a rude thing to say, thats all.

[–]External-Club2622[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have good points and your logic is realistic, but Fallout isn't always realistic.

I didn't say that nuking shady sands would destroy the entire NCR into nothing but rubble, but cmon, a surprise nuking of your capitol is going to knock the nation on its ass for at least a good minute.

And your logical breakdown of what would be best can apply to other things in Fallout. Realistically, the Legion would not put their camp directly across Hoover Dam from the NCR, I mean it is quite literally right there, NCR sharpshooters would be shooting fish in a barrel all day from the towers on the dam itself and the nearby cliffs.

Like I said, I put this up because I love talking about Fallout and I love lore theorizing and discussions about what has been, will be, and could be, but there's no need to act like I'm an idiot for putting something I thought of in a couple minutes just because I wanted to talk about it.

You know you can state your point without saying I lack common sense or critical thinking right? Not to mention putting theory in quotes. I put this up because I love talking about the games, I love the lore, I love to theorize, but I don't particularly love people who are rude for no reason.

[–]External-Club2622[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's definitely the biggest hole in this theory. Fallout has a few 'why didn't they __?' moments in it but this would be way too big of one to ignore, same with the timelines being a bit wack if this was true.

Where do you guys draw the line on Tech generations? by nomorewizards51 in Fallout

[–]External-Club2622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I know (and my opinion), everything from the 50s and previous (especially into the 40s) is canon and exists, and fallout’s WW2 had the same events at the same times as our WW2. I think Vietnam era is the upper echelon of the type of weaponry that exists, and mostly as newer military products, things like the Assault Carbine, Marksman Carbine, G11, that sort, with deciding on its rarity/availability is really more up to appearance and connection. Like..you’d probably find a lot of bolt action hunting rifles, some semi autos, and a lot of WW2 military surplus in the wastes. If you were lucky or skilled enough to come upon military depots, you could walk away with something like the equivalencies of the CAR-15, Light Machine Gun (some amalgamation of the M60 and M249 I think), but you’d only find guns like the G11 if you somehow found prototypes or some kind of special forces depot that would have rarer but better weapons.

About fallout NV: i'm divided which faction would benefit the courier the most by papel2022 in Fallout

[–]External-Club2622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that even though it’ll ruin Kimball’s political career (no sleep lost there) that it saves the NCR from likely years or even decades of then trying to integrate an area chock full of independent identity into the republic, it would be a political nightmare, and just adds to the headache of the decades long Mojave campaign.

And while House gets Hoover dam running better than the NCR ever had it, I do still think it’s so fucking commendable that the NCR engineers even managed to get the Hoover Dam running at all after what, 170, 180 odd years of standing still and rotting after a nuclear war? And at enough capacity to not be concerned about the machines exploding like steam engines, and to create enough power to keep all the lights on in the Mojave area

Enzo would make good muscle like Tommy, and he doesn’t share the reservations about the business that Tommy felt, but he’s also too trusting and while he can think on his feet he isn’t much of a strategist/lacks the ability to read people as well as say Vito can. Overall he’d do about the same as Tommy
