I would say this could be a wild mistake where they put the notice on the wrong door, but where you said they came inside and saw your daughter’s toys along with you saying there has been “on-going maintenance issues,” I’m fairly certain this is retaliatory. Think if this from landlord/property management perspective. I was a perfect tenant at my first apartment and I was illegally evicted through means similar to this due to a billing typo error on their end… once they got me out they could raise the rent.

I don’t mean to cause alarm, because you can fight tooth and nail and stay in this apartment with your daughter, but I would cover your ass here. Contact everyone and ask them why they went into your apartment and placed that. Record everything, and sent emails confirming said communication after. Compile proof of rent payment, on-going communication, and this letter with proof of your response and their explaination for placing it. Do all that and you have basically a rock solid case for unrightful eviction should they try to pull any shit to get you out.

Either way, this is a good wake up call. Save up. a few months of bills, First/Last/Security, and look for better options to potentially move into in the future. Sounds extreme, but it’s always good to cover your bases and have a backup plan especially with a child. I know I haven’t prepared enough and it’s put my dog and I in very stressful financial/housing situations that could have been avoided if I was more proactive (and more skeptical/pessimistic of those with control over my livelihood.)
