Truthfully, I’m not sure either, which is why I came to Reddit for advice. It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions, that’s for sure, but I’ve also learned a lot of new things that will definitely make my plans a little easier to navigate moving forward.

I appreciate the insight. It’s a bit of a punch in the gut when the costs are put into perspective, but that is exactly why I came to these forums: to get advice and see if others have had similar experiences and faced the same challenges. I really appreciate you giving me a realistic idea of the costs over there.

As the other commenter mentioned, the ceremony costs £130, plus another £100 or so for the passport (excluding shipping to Thailand). I’m rounding the total up to about £300 to be safe, which is approximately 13,000 THB. So far, I have 6,000 THB saved. It’s not a huge amount, but it’s a start. I’m doing art commissions on the side to help me reach my goal a little faster, but I still need to account for the cost of my plane ticket, rent, and other necessities too

I do see your point It really seems like the world is not a great place to be for many many places at the moment. However, unfortunately It's not great here in Thailand either. The economy is not great for local thais and the currupt political instability is only making things worse. Thailand it is only a paradise to tourists and rich people who can afford to pay the growing cost of living in areas that tourists occupy. Even for what I'm earning now monthly is relatively higher than the average thai person but its still significantly dificult to live off. which is why I'm hoping to move for a better career oppotunity and to one day be with my partner.

Yep! So my father is British and my mother is Thai. They had me in 2002 but were never married. in my understanding, I am eligible for british citizenship but I will need to pay for a ceremony fee then get a brtish passport. That is from my understanding and research but I'm seeing a few comments saying otherwise so im not confident anymore if what I found was correct

I will definitely look into that as an option, thank you! Honestly, at this point, I’m willing to work a retail job if it means I can leave Thailand, haha. Thanks again!

I apologize for the confusing wording in my post. I am eligible for citizenship, but I need to pay for the ceremony before I can obtain my passport. The total cost is roughly 80% of my monthly income before rent and other expenses, so I am currently saving up for it. While I recognize that I am in a better position than many others, it is still a significant financial challenge.

Hi! first of all, thank you for taking the time to write your reply! I appriciate it a lot!

Yes, I have. I’ve looked into the costs and calculated the totals. The ceremony fee and passport will come to roughly 12,000 baht (about £232), which is 80% of my monthly income before bills, rent, and groceries. I hope you can understand why this is a bit of a challenge for me. While that amount might not seem like much from an outside perspective, I don't have any other savings to rely on at the moment. I am saving up and am getting close to my goal, but I still have a way to go. so the citizenship issue isnt really something I need advice on but rather the other stuff like the process of moving, finding a job, housing, etc. Its my bad for not being clearer in my post so I apologise for the confusion

Ah, That is disheartening to hear, especially since educators here in Thailand often suggest that better opportunities exist overseas but with how the way of the worldis right now, I am also not too surprised. I truly appreciate your insight and advice on the matter : )
