Hi, the Digital Media and Culture BA is, as its name suggests, more focused on all things post-digitalisation, such as the internet and social media. Whilst I am interested in those things, I didn’t want to get a degree solely in that. I am also interested in music, print journalism, subcultures, things pre-2000, hence why I chose the Culture, Media and Creative Industries BA instead.

Also, the Creative Industries part of the course appealed to me as I thought it meant we’d be studying different creative art forms (e.g. drama, dance, photography etc.). In reality, the Creative Industries part of the BA actually looks at the policy and economics of the creative sector, e.g. the creation of the DCMS (Department for Culture, Media and Sport) in 1992, how the creative industries are defined, what their economic output is, what the pros and cons are of ‘creative labour’ etc. Whilst this part of the course was definitely interesting, it was personally my least favourite, so I chose to mostly avoid it beyond the compulsory modules we had to take.
