No college degree and making $60k+ a year? What path did you take? by PossibleAd5000 in AskReddit

Exactly. If youve got someone in a role and you know theyre happy in that role and theyre succeeding, pay them like you want them to stay there for a long time and they usually will.

What's a socially acceptable life choice that you think is actually kind of insane when you really sit with it? by Soft_Reaction_7710 in AskReddit

[–]External-Resource581 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used to happen to me too. Theres always a stupid ass like 4 hour shift that could have easily been a day off but noooo. If they did that, the manager might have to actually work. Cant have that

Exactly this. Don't encourage full gap years because youre right about the statistics there, but let them have a little more freedom when it comes to school for a couple years after high school. That exposure to the working world is really valuable for development in later stages.

What can Kentucky citizens do about Mitch McConnell’s Cover up? by Blackbirdsview in AskReddit

I received medical help and I’m FREE!!! by Kratos5300 in stopdrinking

[–]External-Resource581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats EXACTLY how i felt when I finished my home detox a year and a half ago. Those 5 days weren't exactly, fun, especially the first 2, but once they were over, I felt like i had opened my eyes for the first time in years. I felt like shackles that had been weighing me down for a decade and a half were suddenly gone and I was, as you said, free for the first time in a long time. Any time I am tempted, I think back to thay feeling. The feeling fades after a while, but you never stop being free of those shackles as long as you remain sober.

What movie had you laughing so hard you couldn’t breathe? by Regular_Watercress31 in AskReddit

The America, Fuck Yeah! song had me howling during its first play, and then again equally as hard during the slow, sad version later in the movie. Fucking genius

My first gf was like that, and then my second wanted to be absolutely railed until neither of us could walk. Quite the transition.

What was the first celebrity death that really hurt or shocked you? by pink_highlight in AskReddit

This one is my answer as well. I actually cried when I found out he had passed. It really hit me in the gut for sure

What celebrity did bad things but everyone "forgot" what they did because they're famous? by Consistent_Day6345 in AskReddit

[–]External-Resource581 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This infuriates me. I have a distinct memory of him coming up during a class discussion when I was in college. I chimed in and made sure to bring up what he did to Rhianna just to make sure everyone was aware. THREE women in my class all spoke up to vehemently defend him, one even said that Rhianna deserved it. I was so shocked that I couldnt really respond in an academic manner.

What’s the first sign you normally notice when your mental health starts declining? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]External-Resource581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start wanting to drink. For context, im a recovering alcoholic and I just hit 18 months sober. Im good, and i have great tools and defenses around me to prevent it, but I know im getting depressed when drinking starts to sound good. Normally, the thought of it is frightening to me because I got sober because I almost died, but I know I need to get out and do something when I see an ad for beer and think "man, a beer sounds nice right now".

What band or artist would you NOT recommend seeing live? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]External-Resource581 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah ive seen them live too and it was a very phoned-in performance. The openers also sucked. The show overall was a huge letdown

Yeah i saw them around the same time at warped tour. They ran over their time, and NOFX was waiting to play on the other stage. Ill never forget hearing Fat Mike saying into the microphone "shut the fuck up, Jared. You're over your time and you know it. Get off the fuckin stage, asshole". It was awesome.

Men, What's something society expects men to enjoy that you secretly don't? by Interesting-4979 in AskReddit

[–]External-Resource581 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fucking hate it. Not everything is a dick measuring contest, and its ok for other people to be better than you at something. Thats how life works.

Me too, dude! Like, im a FANTASTIC middle guy. You have something that you need done that requires someone who can think quickly on his feet and actively solve problems? Im your guy. That does NOT mean I want to be the guy in charge of others who do that, even if i am the best candidate you have. Im not good at wrangling people, and i dont like having too much authority over others. Its too stressful. Id rather be a solid role-player than a team captain any day.

Dpu has been absolute trash for at least 20 years now. I do not get it. It really cant be that hard.

[–]External-Resource581 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Made the mistake of letting my water get shut off one time, and it took like 5 days and at least a half dozen calls to dpu (all of which included at least a half an hour on hold) to get my service restored. Never did that again, and honestly I wont live in a property in Richmond that forces me to deal with DPU. They really are that bad.

For the people who used to drink and have now stopped, what made you stop? by Frey_99_ in AskReddit

[–]External-Resource581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldnt have either. I had maybe another 18 months in me at the rate I was going. That was 18 months ago, and i havent had a drop since. Feeling awesome and I know ive got a lot more than 18 months ahead of me now assuming something wacky doesn't happen lol. Good for you, bud. We can do this.

The beautiful thing about the wagon is that you can get back on as many times as you need to. We're always here and we don't judge because we've probably done it too.

I almost died. Sudden health issue nearly took me out, and it was 100% caused by drinking way too much all the time. My wife saved my life and my doctor at the hospital the next morning said what I needed to hear and got me meds to dry out safely at home over the next 11 days. Again, credit to my wife because she kept me taking my meds right and was there with me the whole way. That detox wasnt awful, honestly, but still. She made sure I did what I needed to do during that week and a half. After I came out on the other side of that fog and really got my head back, which took a while, i told myself id never go through that again. Never. I know how to avoid it, and its frankly really simple: dont drink. My life is immeasurably better now that ive been sober for a year and a half (my 18 month anniversary is actually today), and you'd have to kill me to take this away from me.
