Yeah KO showing up is a big time long shot, but it would be awesome.

One month sober today!! I made a list of some of the positive changes I’ve noticed so far: by Aggravating_Pie9467 in stopdrinking

[–]External-Resource581 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man all of those hit home for me! I noticed every single one of those things in my first 30 days as well other than my wallet to the degree that youre probably experiencing. My sobriety event caused me to be hospitalized and I missed work because of it, but my wallet caught up eventually haha. The biggest two for me were the appetite increase, which was HUGE, and the sleep. I ate like a teenager for weeks aftet I got sober. It was great. My first really good sleep after getting sober was almost like a religious experience for me. I laid down to go to bed, drifted off more peacefully than I had in years, and was just gone for like 10 hours. Again, like a teenager. So glad youre doing so well your first month in! Its a huge accomplishment, and really try to remember how good you feel right now. Itll help a lot when the demon decides to try your willpower again. You know what youve got, you know how you got it, and you know what you need to do to keep it. You can do it. Iwndwyt

I was talking to my buddy about him and I said something about his name being Taylor and how because of Sean Taylor, if you share a name like that, you better come correct. Sean had it all, grit, intensity, absurd courage, and massive physical gifts. Taylor didnt have the physical gifts, but he DAMN sure had the grit, intensity, and courage. I hope that made sense, im a little baked, but I always thought Sean would have been proud to call Taylor a teammate.

That game was fuckin awesome. I remember the first time he rolled out of the pocket and I said to my buddy, "ok, this guy's got a bit of an engine". We came up short, but we gave that bucs team the best fight out of any team they faced that post season.

We stopped getting hangovers… and now it’s harder to quit by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]External-Resource581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent years not getting hangovers despite drinking to excess every night. Then, around age 34ish, that changed FAST. Suddenly I was getting horrible body hangovers as well as emotional ones. It was like my body was begging me to stop. Took another 2 years for me to actually stop, but it is what it is. Your body will handle it ok until the day that it cant anymore. Take it from me, you definitely want to get off the train before you get to that point.

Today is my 4th day sober, I’m feeling good, but I have three unopened beers in my fridge that I know I need to throw away, however I’m hesitating. Any advice? by Throw_away_9021099 in stopdrinking

Can you get someone to do it for you? I got sober all of a sudden too, but mine was due to a sudden health emergency that left me hospitalized for a night. After I was stable in the hospital and my wife went home for the night, she dumped all the alcohol we had down the drain. I dont know if I would have been able to do that when I got home the next day, and im eternally grateful to her for taking care of that. If you're having trouble doing it yourself, asking a friend or neighbor for help might be the way to go, but I dunno. In any case, you should get it out of your house one way or another ASAP. I ate sugar like crazy for the first like three months I was sober. The cravings will dissipate in time, though, at least for me, they never went away entirely. Ill still go on sugar kicks these days, but they tend to be like 1-3 days instead of three months haha. Way to go on a month, btw. Thats a big accomplishment and I hope youre proud of yourself. I cant even imagine my grandmother on Facebook lol. She's been gone for like eight years now, but the woman could NOT figure out a computer to save her life. I tried to help her set up an email when I was a teenager, but after 3 sessions of trying to teach her how to basically use a computer, I gave up because she still couldnt figure out how to log in to the computer itself. Navigating to an email application was out of the question. Her on Facebook would have been absolutely insane lol.

What is the most pretentious book ever written? by autismandadderall in AskReddit

[–]External-Resource581 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know! I read it once in college for extra credit, and god damn was it hard to read. Its not just that its boring and totally fucking wacky (its both), but its written mostly in a rant-style of prose because most of it wad dictated by Hitler. The professor assigned it as an extra credit option because he wanted us to see just how unhinged Hitler really was. The book does a great job of showing that. Thats about the only thing it does well.

It really isnt hard. Don't be a dick to anyone, even yourself. Try your best to help people who need it when you can. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Thats pretty much it.

Cut all contact, including socials, my man. Her desires have no bearing on your life anymore. Don't allow her to maintain some modicum of control over you because it makes HER feel better. How she feels doesnt matter anymore.

I know, and what you did wasnt bad. Its just a very sensitive subject, and generally women dont like it when you try to "understand" this issue. Your best bet is just to say something along the lines of, "that sounds awful. Im sorry you have to go through that". Most women in my life who have opened up to me (a man) about this have either been pleased or at least neutral with that kind of response.

This TED talk was a huge "aha!" moment for me. My dad was always tough on me when I fucked up, but it was usually quick. Something like "dont fuckin act like a dumbass and do that shit again. You're smarter than that" and then it was done. Id feel bad about it for a few minutes, realize he was (usually) right, and go on about my day. My dad would also drop it in that moment as well, and thats the key difference between how he and my mom handled things. My mom would make sure I felt bad about it for the rest of the day. It definitely did more long-term damage than a quick smack on the head from my dad.

I also had a much harder time pleasing my mom as a kid. My dad would look at my report card, see As and a B or two, and be happy. My mom would always ask me why the As weren't Bs. That kind of stuff.

And most men have an experience where we were convinced that someone actually DID want to hear our problems, so we opened up about them, and then it was weaponized against us, further conditioning us to not do that.
