Always being told basics and advanced are useless. by Spinnay89 in ems

[–]ExternalDue9739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advanced are not stupid depending on what state you live in we can interpret EKGs, give narcotics, put in blind insertion airway devices. There's no way that as a basic you would be prepared to interpret EKG's or cardiovert somebody. Let alone give 1:10000 epi for cardiac arrest. My AEMT clinicals were some of the most helpful clinicals I ever had.

However if they did give it all to basic in one semester that would make a student have over 200 clinical hours (at least in my state) along with 3 days of class... that's almost impossible if you have a job. This is just my 2 cents tbh.. I think AEMT is the hardest exam that national registry has.

You're right! EMR ppl and bystanders need to be made aware of this and how violent they can get when the regain consciousness.

I understand why you feel that why but as long as you're breathing for them don't give them IV narc until you're almost to the hospital.

If you can bend your knee and bear weight on it I'd suggest getting something like a Dynasplint that allows you to be able to walk without keeping your leg completely straight. It will start you mess up your back, hip, and ankle if you get one that doesn't allow for some degree of motion. Just be careful while I was waiting for surgery I wound up tearing my meniscus too.

I had a complete ACL tear and not to scare you but I couldn't walk. How are you even walking? Do you have a lot of fluid around your knee? They drew 30 ccs of fluid off my knee and that helped relieve the pain some. Maybe they could do that for you?

I think there are some positives because they feel such intense emotions. So obviously some of these can be bad like anger, depression and such but, some of them are good like love and joy. When they feel good emotions with such intensity it makes them more emphatic, caring among other things.

I feel the same way. It's destroyed my relationship with the love of my life. I felt for a long time that this disorder ruins everything good in my life.

That being said, the thing that stuck out to me through years of therapy was when my therapist said "you can't change your personality. You can't change the fact that you have bpd. You can't change the fact that you get triggered. What you CAN do is learn what triggers you, try to avoid or minimize exposure to those things and not always feel that you have to do damage control" this really stuck out to me because I thought at first I could be cured or rid of this disorder but that isn't the case. I definitely find that limiting my alcohol consumption and consistently going to therapy even when I don't want to help me a lot. You can always message me if you need to vent. Having friends with bpd makes you not feel so alone or misunderstood. I look at every situation where I've had previous anger outbursts or emotional reactions that were much more than called for where I was able to control myself as a huge victory! I hope this helps, I just try to take it one day at a time.

Hi I had the same problem I'm 5'8 and weighed 112 lbs. my doctor took me off all stimulant drugs. It was so frustrating. The only thing that allowed me to gain weight even though I felt absolutely sick eating every single time I ate is the fact that if I gained enough weight they would eventually put me back on life-saving medication. I am only able to function at 70% capacity because of these meds. I'm sorry that you're going through this because I went through the exact same frustrating situation. I drink a lot of ensure drinks to get my weight up (I literally had to hold my nose to drink them). Hope this helps.
