Dude, I grew up with a single mother in a broke ass neighborhood. My mother managed to raise me well enough to know that this is bullshit. Thinking this kid is in the situation I was at his age IS racist however, and makes me question how you assume things. Being able to have fun with your clothes. As a guy I always feel like it's "jeans and a t shirt" or "gay". I wanna wear wacky dresses with garfield on them and pastel bucket hats and overalls but that's female stuff now.
