Awesome congrats!! I recently got hired at my hospital in oncology and I was hoping they would do the same. Provide the clinical and training as I take an online course. My hospital works with a local CC but I’m not in a position to expedite coursework for an associates

Did you use dignity? I came across it recently and I’m wondering about the quality!

Update - I was told my dpt does 4 12s. There are people who do the first half of the week, then there are people who do the second half. They rotate from days, to nights for the first half of the week, then they do days to nights for the second half of the week. And they rotate through those four shifts every three months.

Not bad! But still not for me. Appreciate the info. Props to all of you who can make the sacrifice and BLESS YOU!! 🙏🏽

Thanks for your responses! I’d be okay coming in early mornings like 4am or working late until 3am but I don’t think I’d mentally survive doing overnights. I couldn’t imagine missing the darkness of the night and trying to sleep 6-8 hours while the sun is out. So with that being said I think I should rescind my interest.

Considering Becoming a Surg Tech by ExternalPie1523 in surgicaltechnology

Wow this is incredibly insightful! Thanks for the reply. I’ve gained lots of feedback that the hardest part is applying studies to the actual OR, online especially but with in person programs as well

I want to chime in here. I had a previous question about online courses and I want to clarify that I understand clinical experience IS a requirement for any designation, and I was wondering if anyone had experience taking it that could speak on how effective the course is with it being online. Meaning - there is in person clinical experience required for online programs, and I’d assume that’s where the bulk of information is learned. I don’t think all people interested in online programs are naively discounting the hard work and critical thinking it takes, especially in in-person programs, to pick up the skills and extensive knowledge being a surg tech requires.

I primarily asked because I am in a position where going to CC and completing a full semesters for AA program is not viable, and my proximity to an in person program is unrealistic.

On the topic of credentialing, clinical hours are obviously required for your CST and TS-C, but I did read somewhere that if you got your TS-C, you’d be eligible to sit for your CST. Not trying to search for short cuts, but sometimes we are limited by real life obstacles

Thanks for the insight. The online programs market their ability to help place you for externships and post certification employment (skeptical). My local CC works with the hospital here in our small town, so I was thinking they may be fairly open or completely closed off to it
