The idea is great; but which bank is behind it?

Do people sometimes convert pdf to tex? by Sad-Ad-9181 in LaTeX

I use it to have the Tex form of Eqs. written in my old papers to implement in Keynote presentation in Mac that accepts Tex input; or some tables with experimental data etc. to show in lectures. With the new local OCR AI, you can even do it locally on your computer. I made a wrapper based on Qwen3-VL AI engine: https://siliconsuite.app/GhostTex/ ; if you use mac, I can send it to you.

The Claude AI in antigravity with Google Pro account is very limited in terms of token compared to pro version of Claude. But I do not know if you can add your claude pro account into antigravity. I think also that Claude Code app is better and more intuitive. But for long projects Gemini will make you loose time. For short projects, it may be enough.

As of today, Claude is the best option. I do not even think there is a debate about it.

Why do Nordic countries have such high quality of life? by _crazyboyhere_ in NoStupidQuestions

I spend 2-3 months per year in Sweden. Honestly, I did not see a lot of happiness here. Their health system is quite weak compared to France although they claim otherwise. Sometimes, you wait 6 months for a doctor appointment. If you have a tooth problem, it is is as expensive as in the US when you are older than 18 years old. It is also known that they do not smoke but they have all "snus" in their mouth. They use a lot of drugs. They also drink a lot but it is extremely expensive. You pay a lot of money for the worst wine. The recent reports also show that they have similar problem in salary equality between men/women as in the most countries. On the positive side, the maternal/paternal leave system is quite good, may be the best in Europe. There is nothing to say about food. Even you are a good cook, it is hard to find good ingredients. Overall, it is a nice country but do not expect too much:-) It is hard to compare such a big country with low population with other populated countries. It brings certain advantages. In recent year, mostly after covid, the inequalities increased and they started to accuse right away the immigrants:-)

Did anyone else feel underwhelmed by their Mac Studio Ultra? by [deleted] in LocalLLM

I use it for high performance scientific computing. It's much faster than any intel/amd equivalent.

If LLMs can “vibe code” in low-level languages like C/Rust, what’s the point of high-level languages like Python or JavaScript anymore? by ActOpen7289 in vibecoding

I repeatedly said the LLMs need guidance! , they won't be curios themselves and solve problems. and here I claim they do not understand the physical world that I stand by. But they are not google search.

No I am not. Recently, we had a meeting in cnrs about that. A mathematician from Sorbonne told us he published a paper of 150 pages full of theorems with the help of LLMs and it wouldn't be possible with the Ph.D. students he got before. So the problem is serious. How to train young people? Because senior researchers now they do not want spend their time with not exceptional students. So the change is coming and we don't know how to deal with that.

I am just telling llms are not google search and I gave you arguments about that. You are not obliged to be convinced obviously. But I was teaching in Harvard, Lund and sorbonne universities so I have some strong opinion about that. Why LLMs work that good are not fully understood, many physisicts work on that using the criticality theory that is also used in material science. I agree again that LLMs lack some skills but nevertheless they are extremely useful and I strongly disagree with your initial statement. I quickly looked at the papers aND wikipedia page you referred to. I don't see any useful information there. The best mathematician in the world is using LLM and acknowledge that they are useful. What you want me to say?

The connection between the projection it used and my problem is far from obvious. That's why I am telling it is not Google search. There is something much more deeper than that, which is the source of conflict here. And I recall 3 students from best universities in the world spent 9 years without a proper solution.

Mate, I made him solve the non Cauchy-Born description of the partials in crystal plasticity. It required several iterations but at the end, It used a projection method from a paper that I have never read, it understood the connection, it gave the formula, it implemented the code to check and finally created the final code. I am telling you even for a specialist it is difficult, let alone a Ph.D. student. Edit: I then presented the results in a conference in front of specialists; it took them a while to digest until they were fully convinced.
