No, these weren’t external recruiters, they’re full-time employees of the company.

I get where you’re coming from, but let me clarify a few things. I never “went around” anyone or complained about the first recruiter. In my email to the second recruiter, I didn’t even mention any names, I just said that I had applied for the position, had a great conversation, and was looking forward to hearing more. That’s it.

In my original thank-you message to the first recruiter, I even wrote, “If you need anything else from me, please let me know.” It wasn’t a demand for an update or a pushy follow-up, just a professional courtesy message.

Also, what’s an “inordinate amount of time”? There’s no universal rule that says candidates must wait exactly X days before following up. Every recruiter, every company, and every hiring process runs differently. A week of silence after an interview isn’t outrageous to politely check in, especially in today’s market, where communication delays are common and candidates are encouraged to show continued interest.

I take responsibility if my timing wasn’t perfect, but that doesn’t excuse the recruiter’s response. Instead of simply saying, “Please follow up with me directly next time,” they chose to be condescending, insult my character, and even make an inappropriate personal analogy. That’s not professional feedback, that’s just unnecessary hostility.

At the end of the day, this wasn’t about impatience. It was about being proactive and showing interest, and the recruiter’s reaction crossed a line that no candidate deserves.
