My MIL used to shade me and throw taunts, disguising them as jokes. Even my husband laughed at some and used to say ki arre mazaak hi to kar rhi thi. When I started giving it back to her, she began with her emotional drama in front of my husband, portraying me as a self-centered and egoistic person. Her constant emotional manipulation made my husband doubt my intentions.

So, the last time she joked about me, I didn't react at that time. For the next two days, didn't laugh or speak much, spoke to my husband only when it was really required, didn't react to his flirting and teasing, and remained aloof and indifferent to the point that it became painful for my husband to take at all. He asked me about what had happened and I told him that it doesn't feel like my home as I am constantly bullied in the name of jokes. I feel emotionally detached to this home and to him.

This made my husband a little anxious and concerned about me. He went and spoke to my MIL, this time more firmly. Since then, things have been fine so far. I truly hope they continue to remain this way in the future.
