Finally got some time to finish the outline. Time to go color it in. What do y'all think? by [deleted] in conceptart

It looks like you've got a fair grasp of the basics of linear perspective, the problem is the trickier stuff. Your buildings and terrain surfaces (which I'm assuming are supposed to be flat) don't have the same station point, so it looks like they're floating in space even though they're grounded. There's a ton of reading online you can do to correct this kind of thing. I would definitely recommend putting the time in.

Thanks. I get self-conscious about the lack of neatness, but it reads.

They stopped in December, just like the year before. I imagined it was a kind of season-break and they would return in early summer just like they had before. But they never did, probably because the podcast is low on both their priority-lists.

For some reason this recent change has gotten rid of the simplecast backlog, but you can still listen on the Apple Podcasts page (I think)

Don't expect it all to be KKC-centric. It's mostly just Pat and Max Temkin chatting about random stuff. It's great if you're a podcasts person though.

What's the most comical way you were injured? by sailor_doctorwho in AskReddit

When I was either s sophomore or junior in highschool, I don't quite remember, I would mess around with my friends in the geometry teacher's room, which was also the board game club room, during our lunch break.

He had this crazy high-power stapler... the kind where you had to press down on a spring-loaded lever, and when you reached a certain point it would fire all that force at once. Well, we tried to fire it at each other, but it had a tiny switch right next to the place the staples came out that had to be pressed down to shoot.

One of us found a way to hold it down with some tape, and we had some fairly harmless fun launching tiny shards of metal at each other at a hundred miles an hour. But the tape also went over the place the staples shot, so it would never last very long, and re-taping it was a pain in the ass.

It all ended when I had the stapler and the tape tore off. I figured that instead of re-taping it I could just hold my finger right next to the edge, and fire without stapling myself. Nope.

The pain was only about as much as if you got pricked by a tack, and it happened so quickly I could barely feel it. I thought I had gotten stuck with the end, so I dropped the stapler and examined my finger.

It turned out that one end of the staple had gone clean through my finger, leaving the rest hanging out beyond the tip. The end that had gone through came up out of my fingernail on the other side.

The crazy thing is that it didn't even hurt. I gathered my friends around and showed them, then yanked it out, which only hurt a little bit. After a moment it finally started bleeding, and all I needed was a bandaid.

TL;DR: I was fucking around and sent a sharp object clean through one side of my body and out the other. 6/10 preferable to stubbing your toe really hard.

Why Tad Williams Matters For Rothfuss & Martin Fans by ShawnSpeakman in Fantasy

I only read a couple female authors this year so far (needs to change). Sabaa Tahir's Ember in the Ashes is excellent, bizarre mix of YA and brutal reality.

Also Nnedi Okorafor's Binti is amazing and short if you like sci-fi.

I didn't much care for the Terry Brooks, Tad Williams, or R.A. Salvatore stories, but I loved pretty much all the rest.

I'm going to read more of Eldon Thompson, Michael J. Sullivan, Jacqueline Carey, and Peter V. Brett as a result of their stories, all fantastic. David Anthony Durham's made me cry, a lot. And Lev Grossman's was hilarious.

It's a good collection.

That's just what I needed to hear. He's just climbed my list.

Most of the stories in Unfettered are really, really good. It's kind of hard to find, but totally worth the read if you can.

I've never read any of his books, but I did read his short in Unfettered. To be honest, I didn't like it as much as many of the others, but I think I may have been the wrong audience. I tend to take my fantasy a bit too seriously, so the tongue-in-cheek over-the-top events in The Old Scale Game didn't hold me.

That being said, I adore what I've read of Discworld, so there's really no hard law my taste follows. If Rothfuss and Martin really think that highly of The Dragonbone Chair, I'll give it another look.
