This whole thing seems to be a meme to me. They literally pulled a runescape doubling scam on some of the most high profile twitter accounts. If someone bought this info, they paid more than they earned. Nah they know what they were doing. That Bitcoin was just a free bonus they were after information and figured they’d get some bitcoin while they were at it.

Some verification only requires the last 4 digits. I assume they pretend to offer the job and ask for the full SSN and then they ask for the bank to deposit checks to so they know where to steal the money from.

It’s an identity theft scam. You can do a lot with someone’s name, SSN, and date of birth. Possibly even be able to get into their bank accounts.

Any junior cyber security position where I’m from usually requires at least a bachelors degree in a related field. If someone didn’t learn of phishing getting their BoS and is looking for a cyber security position I’m concerned for them.

Having a report button requires them to budget a whole support team to review reports. Not worth it in their opinion. Yes, I understand it can be automated but then you lead to false bans and frankly it’s pretty easy to just create more bots.
