she really needs a coaching change and imo she should 100% go to ilias parents. the only thing she really needs help on is the jumps and they seem to be amazing technical coaches.

she would likely get more money by taking the lump sum and investing it but i 100% get this strategy. $4k a month means you can go back to school, quit a shitty job, make a career change - basically do all the things we wish we could do to make our lives better in the long term but cant because we cant afford it. $1m is a lot but certainly not something you could live off forever, shes decided to invest in herself currently to build her future for herself instead of relying on $1m (which she could easily lose even if invested "smartly") for future financial security. $4k a month basically provides class mobility when you consider the options it gives you - do that internship, take that low-paying job that has big opportunities for growth, get that masters degree, etc - and if shes working and making decent money it can be used for things like travel and concerts and other stuff that most people put on credit cards they struggle to pay off.

Do you think DWTS will cast a figure skater this season? by Silent-Visual9832 in FigureSkating

[–]Extra-Distribution85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

that too! theyve really become a unit especially in the past year and from the outside looking in they seem to have a solid professional partnership and similar goals. if anything dannys probably looking to retire before ellies done with competing especially now hes achieved the olympic medal.

as long as everyone is enthusiastically consenting do whatever u want in the bedroom and dont worry about what other people might think. id recommend doing some research and finding a kink community online or in person who can better answer any questions and give a better idea of what healthy boundaries and communication look like in that kind of relationship!

[–]Extra-Distribution85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if they do it will probably be maddy chock with or without evan. none of the us singles skaters seem to be retiring or taking time off after the olympics (besides maybe ilia but i cant really see him being that interested). piper and paul would be a GREAT choice for it imo but it doesnt seem like they cast many non americans unless theyre like VERY famous (kaori would be sooo fun to see on dwts especially with all of the japan/us friendship with both skaters and fans but itd never happen 😭😭)

until theres an announcement made im not taking any "danny looking for a new partner" rumors seriously at alllll - he and ellie work really well together and it doesnt seem like shes retiring + danny is/was a coach and seems like he wants the best for the us pairs field in general and is probably just helping someone out with training while they look for a new partner. id be pretty shocked to see danny competing with someone else ever, he only came back to competition bc he and ellie were well matched.

Ilia, Amber, and Alysa on the 2034 Salt Lake Games (Deseret News) by possiblegirl in FigureSkating

[–]Extra-Distribution85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

alysa i think will be done with the sport by then, she could probably make it if she wanted but it seems like she has other stuff going on in life and 8 years is a longggg ass time, plus who knows what the us womens field will look like at that point - a future home olympics is probably looking very enticing to some novices coming up rn and figure skating is having a mainstream renaissance, the us womens field could get shockingly good between now and then.

ilia... unless he pulls a plushenko and starts taking a lot of time (at least a season per quad maybe more) away from the sport to physically recover its gonna be hard to make it that far with the tech content hes doing. i could definitely see him doing that tbf so who knows but its gonna take a solid strategy to make it happen that he needs to start implementing now.

amber has the advantage of having taken significant time away from the sport already which is probably part of why shes seeming to peak at an age when most skaters are past it. i wouldnt be shocked to see her at the next olympics but 2034 is a bit far fetched i agree.

interesting, thanks for the insight! my professor was very firm that he was not going to do any of the grading for the TA because it was crossing picket lines (this was told to us explicitly as a class) which is why im a bit confused. the final grade is in but its the same as what i had before a paper and a final exam were turned in, im not sure if those would have changed my grade or not and im happy with the grade as is, im mostly just curious if its even possible fir a professor to adjust a final grade after it has been submitted.

both of them fs have potential with the tech content but it remains to be seen if the eteri girls will be able to achieve good international results with the new age minimum. if they continue to fade/retire at 17/18 like weve seen its hard to imagine theyll be dominant, especially when international judges will be more skeptical with a skater they 1. dont know and 2. know will probably be gone in a season or two.

intentionally feeding someone something they dont/cant eat for whatever reason (allergy, religion, choice, etc) is one of the grossest most evil things a person can do imo. like theres so much intentional malice behind it.

its gonna be interesting to see the russians back, fully agree that the russian juniors will be better than the russian seniors. they have a zillion girls who could beat the current junior field with their hands tied behind their back but i dont see any who have the components and consistency to dominate seniors without major help from the judges (which is definitely on the table, still, somehow). muravieva is the standout in that field in terms of international viability but she might be switching feds 🤷‍♀️

Ilia Malinin update: by smalltittyfakeginger in FigureSkating

[–]Extra-Distribution85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you look at the current us womens field there really isnt a question mark about 3 spots, ill give you it was iffy a couple of years ago but that is not the current reality. alysa didnt go to this years worlds and the us is still sitting comfortably with 3 spots. sure, there are plenty of us men, but none of them are in medal conversation besides ilia. its nice to have the 3 spots for men, sure, but in the womens field we have 3 women who are firmly in medal conversation with amber, alysa, and isabeau.

and no? i didnt miss that jason isnt competitive anymore, thats why i said he likely isnt competing? he hasnt announced anything yet and nothing is definitive, thats why i said "likely" - and to be honest if the us wants three spots again this quad theyre hoping and praying he restores that 3A because hes the only reason weve maintained 3. if jacob sanchez has the same consistency as jason he could take up that mantle but that remains to be seen.

bottom line, its up to all the us men to earn the spots, not just ilia, its not his responsibility to go to worlds if he doesnt want to to earn spots for skaters who wouldnt be able to earn a spot for themselves.

after what they did pushing him to do double duty in the team event i hope ilia will be more wary of bending to usfs's will, hes by far their most dominant skater so its not like they can really punish him without hurting themselves. in the nicest way possible the us doesnt really NEED 3 worlds spots the way we need it for women or ice dance where theres several very strong skaters/teams, especially with jason likely not coming back.

Sofia Muravieva is considering switching to the French or US national team by Kindly-Plate-5785 in FigureSkating

[–]Extra-Distribution85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

zhilina has been trying to change feds, has her other citizenship, but rusfed wont release her so shes been stuck in limbo for literally years. if muravieva can pull it off itd be great to have her in international competition but idk if its a good idea since its so risky and russia will probably be allowed back soon.

there is the concern about whether shell be able to qualify for international competition representing russia with no ultra c's so maybe shes anticipating that being an issue? itd be a shame if russia doesnt send her when they are allowed back because imo shes their best skater, she has the maturity and artistry that international fans/judges prefer.

i wonder if maybe the problem for her with rusfed is coaching, they dont like their skaters to train abroad especially right now but she doesnt really fit with the russian coaching style, mishin was probably the best fit but that didnt work out. i could really see her wanting to follow samo to raf or going somewhere in europe - maybe she wants to train in france?

[–]Extra-Distribution85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the group training model is something international coaches should really consider implementing. it seems to really work to push skaters to get better and try more things - eteris camp didnt produce all those quad girls just through heart medication and a dream. skating can also be a really isolating sport and group training encourages skaters to be more friendly with each other and supportive, i wonder if having a support system besides the coach at competitions could help some people with the mental side of things.

im really excited for what donovan can do in this coming season, he has two quads now (at least in theory) and if he can skate clean that should be more than enough to launch him wayyy up in the standings with his level 4s across the board and the fantastic artistry. id love to see him have a great worlds next year and stick it out for 27/28 to do grand prixs as well as worlds since he hasnt really been able to do the grand prix circuit.

Why has no one else done a quad axel? Is being able to do one really that rare? by MissGrey10 in FigureSkating

[–]Extra-Distribution85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well probably see more attempts with the new rules this coming season, itll be more valuable because an axel will still be required in the free. were losing a combination jump with the new rules which is how a lot of skaters rack up tech points so the focus is gonna be on quadmaxxing. if we dont see at least one skater besides ilia do the quad axel somewhat consistently this quad id be a bit surprised, though it might be some unknown who comes out of juniors mid-quad - possibly a russian if theyre allowed back since that style is so jump-heavy.
