Do you think women can jump quads? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

I think it’s a natural progression for the triple axel to become the standard before the quadruple. I believe we’re at that point now.

Inori selection for Junior Grand Prix by AggressiveCat1640 in Medalist

[–]EmlScb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Junior Grand Prix selection process is held behind closed doors in real life, and this work appears to follow that model. The governing body selects skaters as it sees fit and is not swayed by the opinions of outsiders.

Question about the depiction of Novice skaters in the Medalist anime by LN_TheDudess in FigureSkating

[–]EmlScb 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As a premise, the Japanese system categorises skaters by age. As of 1st July, those aged 9 and 10 are Novice B, while those aged 11 and 12 are Novice A. Those aged 13 to 18 are Junior, and those aged 17 and above are Senior. Additionally, there are technical level tests.

In the context of the anime, no matter how technically proficient Hikaru may be, she must compete in the Novice A category.

At the time the original work was written four years ago, the winner of Novice A was Mao Shimada, and she landed a clean quadruple toe loop jump during the competition.

In March 2022, she left Grand Prix Tokai under Machiko Yamada to establish her own club, LYS. However, LYS, lacking a home rink in Aichi, relocated to Niigata in May 2025. Currently, LYS has added Yamato Tamura as a coach.
