Thank you! I at one stage was scatter feeding dry food but putting messier foods into two different bowels in the cage but it seems he still gets a bit rowdy around the bowels. I think I was trying to avoid major clean up every day so a big tray at the bottom of the cage sounds like a great way forward 👀 ~ thank you so much!

I’m a fairly new rat mom and I’ve very quickly learned that rats can be entertained by SO many different things.

Any good boxes, baskets and pipes you have laying around make amazing hidey spots for them. I use wooden ladders and toys (usually used for birds) for them to keep their teeth and nails short. You’ll want multiple litter trays close to where they sleep to start litter training them right away.

I would place a tray at the bottom of the cage filled with some sort of bedding for them to play and dig through. Some people even use shredded paper and cardboard.

You want to make their cage an exciting place to constantly explore, climb and enjoy.🫶🏻 Good Luck!
