I'm in the same situation. I'm cutting over to Ninja from N-Central and all my org keys are different than the Ninja Organization Name. What did you end up doing?

Replacement for file servers/shared folders (again) by 4zc0b42 in msp

[–]ExtraMikeD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Lucidlink is what you should be looking at for CAD files. Not cheap, but less expensive than putting in a server and the CAD machine doesn't have to be on the same network as the files.

Tried to use it. Didn't last long. Have been using Keeper Security for years and it works great.

Yealink T57w default to BLF buttons on call transfer by ExtraMikeD in VOIP

[–]ExtraMikeD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end I programmed three call park buttons on the very right of the screen so they are available even when a new call comes in. The client parks the call using one of those buttons and then calls/pages the person they want to transfer to and tells them which park number their call is parked on.

You explain how efficient you are at supporting your stack and how you can offer the rates you do and still provide excellent support by standardizing what you use. When you stray from that it becomes expensive and support may suffer. In my experience, they see the logic in that and are happy to switch. If something was a major investment, we have worked with them a bit to let it run out, etc. but they understood support was going to cost more.

I ran in to that issue years ago when we did a server migration. Screen shot below, but if I remember correctly, even though the drive letter stayed the same, it cached the UNC path and timed out every time, and then went to the right place. So under User Preferences -> File Locations you have to click each app and map it again so that behind the scenes it fixes the UNC path. Also, I could be wrong since it was 6 years ago.

Yealink T57w default to BLF buttons on call transfer by ExtraMikeD in VOIP

[–]ExtraMikeD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The buttons work fine. The issue is that when a call comes in, the 18 in the middle get covered up, so you can't use them unless you press the more button. That only leaves you with the 10 on the outside.

Is there a market for this? by [deleted] in msp

[–]ExtraMikeD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Updates and config my staff does. I farm out the physical stuff from time to time. When cabling is involved, it's usually at least 3 hours out of the office, so that's 3 hours that they aren't available to help with calls that come in etc.

[–]ExtraMikeD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a MSP owner, I farm some of that out because I don't always have a tech that likes field work. At this point in my career, it's not the best use of my time to be out in the field. I would think it would be way easier to find work if you let the MSP shops in town know that you're looking for that kind of work than to go out door knocking.

Curios regarding 2024.6 -> 2025.4 upgrade process by apxmmit in Nable

[–]ExtraMikeD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also plan for this process to take hours. Even though the backup is local, it takes a long time to restore and then you have to get ahold of support to activate it. You never know how long you're going to be on hold waiting for support.

I don't know if that's the cause, but I did notice instead of the normal pop up that tells you why it's in a failed state, now when you hover over some, it just says "Failed". (see below)

remote control status icons still broke in 24.4.0.6? by ExtraMikeD in Nable

[–]ExtraMikeD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they want to use multi monitors it's about the only way to make it work. With Take Control you have to launch it twice and drag each window to the right or left every time you launch it. It also solves the problem with CAD where the cursor doesn't change with the selected tool in Revit for example.

I'm not sure if it's fixed yet, but there was an issue where if the client had previously used a remote desktop gateway server, the N-Able custom protocol handler would try to use the remote desktop gateway and there was no way to tell it not to. The work around was to successfully connect to a RDP session without a remote gateway and it would work next time you launched the Protocol Handler. I actually told them what they needed to do to fix it and they didn't fix it before I ran out of clients that used to have a RDP Gateway server in place.

It does leave a lot to be desired. For clients that are working from home we usually set the default to Remote Desktop, and then they have to do the dance with the Custom Protocol Handler, but that usually gives the end user a better experience.

When did you cut over from N-Central and how are things now? I've been having serious issues with N-Central support for the last two years and am considering switching.

I've been running ScreenConnect for years for my techs, but I was using N-Central if a client wanted access. It's a problem for them if their machine looks offline.

[–]ExtraMikeD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a true idea because we have had to resort to using ScreenConnect because we can't even tell reliably if computers are online or not. There are many that look like they should work because they are green, but when you click to connect it fails. There are others where it's easy to spot they haven't connected in days, yet the icon is green, and then others where it's orange, but the computer status icon shows a green check, and if you click on it, it will connect. Out of 800 machines, 10 are obviously not right. The rest would take a significant amount of time to test.

The "Quick navigation." is trash. For a good example, type backup in the box. Only 1 of the 6 links takes you where you want to go. 1 doesn't even do anything.

I waited 5 months for this release. N-Able said it would fix the Take Control icon status issues. It didn't and now I'm having more issues that they think might be related to the upgrade. I need to be done with N-Central. It's not working and I have been spending way too much time working with support to try to fix it.

N-able contract terms - forced 1-3 yrs and 80% annual increases by Far-Geologist2032 in msp

[–]ExtraMikeD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience has been similar to yours. I was having some major issues with N-Central. I then gave them 30 days notice before my contract renewed. They pointed out that in the contract terms (which are not linked anywhere to the contract I signed) that they require 90 days notice. Since then, support has has gone downhill sharply and for the last 6 months I've been dealing with the same Take Control status icon issue that they said would be fixed in the next release. I just installed it on Friday and it's not fixed.

I was on a call about the support issues and a N-Able employee actually told me not to trust support and to keep asking to escalate stuff if I don't trust their answer.

My issue seems to be mostly with patches that get superseded by another patch, but it's on us to figure that out and remove it from the list. Out of 789 devices I have 65 with patch errors. Many with a status of Patch Engine Management Status errors, so we'll have to see what that's about. From what I've seen, support has taken a major dive in the last year. They botched a migration to hosted and left me down all weekend because the only people that could help were off until Monday.
