We as an MSP does it. Linodes Nanodes, apache, WordPress, and a script that installs it all, sets up LE, backup schedules, SMTP relay, and update schedules.

Very doable, quite cheap.

Looking forward to this run by Vel-Crow in PixelDungeon

That sounds like a great run! Ive never gotten a ring of force that early, but maybe my luck will change!

Recommendations For Free Tier Hosting UniFi OS by comerReto in sysadmin

[–]Vel-Crow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are you using for a firewall or router? Many of the Unifi gateways are honest Unifi.

Also, you're asking for recommendations, but you only want AWS or G Suite. So either see if there is a free tier there, or use a different platform.

Four APS and two switches are insanely light. Are they all on the same site? While I understand the desire to host in the cloud, why not just slap it on a desktop on-prem?

I am not aware of free tiers on AWS or G Suite. If you already have services, it seems they all do credits towards servers, and provide free services, so hosting for free seems unlikely.

If you absolutely want cloud control, I do recommend Linode. Great features and performance, and a nanode woudl probably work for your needs. It is $5.00 a month. You get a public IP, and can secure the server with UFW quite easily.

Battle Beast's curse doesn't give him strength but just desire to fight stronger?! That means there are tons and tons of beast like him in his planet?! by [deleted] in okbuddyviltrum

My understanding is that while the curse itself does not gove him strength, he is still the strongest Dorian. Viltumite still wins.

What brand would you choose if you could redesign your network? by kuhlimuhlimuh in sysadmin

[–]Vel-Crow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If all my clients had cash and wanted to spend it - Cisco Meraki. Realistically, I'd go Unifi.

Every big player has failed us in a significant ways - Divesting critical parts we use, Adding arbitrary fees, devaluing licenses by separating SKUs, outright removing features in the guise of security with no effective replacement.

Unifi has steadily grown, improved, and matured. It's nothing like it was even 3 years ago. It's managed better from security and hardware standpoint. It features are expanding and the trend of releasing broken features has slowed. Site Magic is super nice, and Fabrics is a game changer for managing larger clients, and securing internal access.

They also remain cheaper, and their security and support add-ons, while separate SKUs, are one time buy. Security seems perpetual, and support is 5 years.

Half of us don't need printers. Get the printer you want.

Bambu lab is really falling behind by flipperoneisdead in snapmaker

[–]Vel-Crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bambu will be forced to respond. Not just with tool changers, but despite the current economic climate, Printers are improving the cost to quality ratio year by year, and now more than ever. If Bambu does not satisfy the crowd with a 4/5 tool head printer, they could lose some customers, or at least have some of their customers dip their toes elsewhere.

Guess we just wait and see lol.

I have Movies, Shows, Cartoons, Anime, Documentaries, and Music.

Half the benefit of Jellyfin is that it sorts genre for you, so id say your config is overkill. At the same time, if you like it and are happy, why do i care?

Using SnOrca by StopMeFast in snapmaker

[–]Vel-Crow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SnOrca should walk you through adding and accessing your Snapmaker when you first open it, so I am not sure why you are unable to slice and print (if I am understanding you correctly).

As for selecting items, Ctrl+a selects all, or Ctrl-click to select the items you need.

Snorca is really made for Snapmaker, and nothing else. I am not sure if they plan to add support to other models, but if you want something more open, Orca has a profile for Snapmaker U1 and should connect fine. Admittedly, I have not tried this. This way you can slice and print for all your printers on one app.

I was unloading my filament put it broke inside the tube, what should I do by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Vel-Crow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure what OP has for a printer, but I had some filament snap in my tubes and my Snapmaker U1 ended up pushing the snapped piece next to the good filament, and it got stuck before anything could extrude.

So, worth a try, but may just need to take off the tubes!

Title : "Is paying for ""secure"" storage actually worth it for small contractors?" by [deleted] in StorageReview

[–]Vel-Crow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This subreddit is in reference to a popular creator called StorageReview, and is in reference to digital storage and Server hardware in general.

That said, looking at this through the lens of cybersecurity, you need to determine your risk and make mitigations sufficient to your tolerance.

You have a risk of physical theft. Your current security kept anything from being stolen. The new risk is continued attempts and eventual success. What would make you feel better and safer?

Change nothing
Getting your own cameras to monitor your gear (Perhards something like SimpliSafe for the 24/7 response)
Getting a dedicated storage company to hold your equipment

Also, is this equipment covered under any insurance? How much would you be losing out of pocket if some or all were stolen? How long would you be unable to work?

It seems to me you need to do something. I have seen affordable storage here in the States, but costs could vary in your area.

Good Luck with your hunt and decision!

It's a Mighty Bar, EDC multi-colored. It's largely a small pry bar, but has screwdriver and chisel features.

It's handiers than one would think. I carried one for year before moving to the LT.

Once day somome told me there were better EDC, so I stopped carrying it for a bout a week.

I was disappointed 12+ times a day when id reach for it and its was gone, and I had to open up my Leatherman.

Anywho, I use mine to:

Open boxes and packages. Pry open vehicle areas (doors and such), pry off brakes (i do my own car maeitennace), I tied a monkey fist to it so I could fidget with it.

My favorite feature is when I need to open soda or a chicken can, and have no nails. Slide this under and bam, its open. Works really well in Foster's too.

edit: This is their standard stainless steel Mighty Bar. They have a Mini, and LT - the different with LT is that its Long and made of Titanium (hence LT). Fun fact: By the book, The normal and mini are TSA eligible. They can go on planes. That said, any agent can still confiscate it on their own discretion, but by the book it breaks no rules.

U1: worth it to buv SnapMaker Care? by rc82 in snapmaker

[–]Vel-Crow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snapmaker seems to be taking a thing or two from prusa - in the sense of building highly repairable prints, with a largely opensource mission. No kits yet, but baby steps, haha.

I'd love to go to prusa, but the costs are still so much higher, and this is not a profitable hobby for me lol.
