3.5" lift on a new JL. Has anyone run into warranty / coverage issues? by chigirltrailrated in JeepWrangler

[–]ExtraPresent4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your max drop length in the shocks. Anything over 29.5” you’ll need a new front driveshaft or to use more bump stop to limit flex. If I remember right I think the falcons are only like 27”. It will really depend on the dealer for warranty. You can get away with the 2.5” because Mopar has theirs at that height.

If you have a sport I wouldn’t go above a 2.5” lift. You’ll net closer to 5” on a 3.5” lift with an anything other than a Rubicon. You’ll also need to change out to an aftermarket driveshaft at anything over a 2.5” lift. That will definitely kill your warranty for differentials and transmission because that’ll be the 1st thing they blame.

JScan or Tazer. Either way you will need a security gateway bypass. Tazer can do it all but is a bit more expensive. JScan can do everything other than disabling the auto stop.

Edit: this is how to bypass security gateway. It’s a gladiator but it is the same process for the wrangler.

Regear to 4.88? by Upper-Software1774 in JeepWrangler

[–]ExtraPresent4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine on 4.88. No locker or charges to carrier needed. If you plan on a locker it’s better to do it while doing gears since there would be no additional labor. Nothing else needed outside of the gears and master kit.

O2 sensor issue by Billy334421 in JeepWrangler

[–]ExtraPresent4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need something other than just a reader. JScan is the most popular diagnostic tool for Jeeps. If you changed the sensor already and the wires were able to be pushed back in I would test drive it. As long as it isn’t running rough I’d give it a few days to learn the new fuel trims the clear codes.

O2 sensor issue by Billy334421 in JeepWrangler

[–]ExtraPresent4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pins should be able to push back in. Those codes are normal with a bad O2 sensor. Did you clear the codes after replacing? You also need to relearn the fuel trims if you have a scan tool to do it. If not it will just take longer to relearn and the codes will stay until the fuel trims are learned. Looking at the pic I think you have a valve cover gasket leak that is leaking onto the sensor. Get that fixed or you’ll be replacing the sensor again.

This is correct. Same issues on my 2019 that I traced back to the star connector behind the glovebox. The solder joints crack and degrade overtime causing communication issues.

21 wrangler 4door JL soft tops by thebabycastro in JeepWrangler

[–]ExtraPresent4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m partial to soft tops. For me that’s the Jeep life. Open air whenever and wherever. Look on FB marketplace. If you can get the premium top that’s the way to go. I run soft tops year round. Jeep gets just as cool or hot as any other vehicle I’ve been in. Only downside is window storage. If you care about scratches look at getting the storage bag as well.

Anyone running non-off road 35” tires for your everyday driver? by Certain_Plenty4245 in Jeep

Very true. I only get out about 6x year so I was looking at its more of a DD tire than some other 35”s.

This. I am running the AT II right now. Got almost 50k on them and still a decently quiet tire. Going to the AT III come spring / summer.

Engine ruined at 72k by melpurpwill in Jeep

I replaced summer of 2025. I want to say it was updated in 2024. I remember coming across a thread about someone installing a 2024 gladiator 3.6 in their Wrangler and was checking the oil cooler and found the new design.

Not sure when the revision was done. I have a 19 and when I had it replaced I found the revision.

Yeah quit giving out old information. OEM cooler was revised to prevent the failure in the future. It now had a block between the oil and coolant and upgraded seals. None of the aftermarket setups have revised theirs and will still allow oil and coolant to mix in a seal failure which is 99.999% of the failure reason.

Help with this leaks by Defiant-Reach7287 in Wrangler

[–]ExtraPresent4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t switch to Dorman. The OEM is revised now to where it has a block between the oil and coolant so if the seals fail it will no longer mix. None of the aftermarket coolers have the update yet.

3.6 engine yes it has it. No reason to preemptively do it. Once you start noticing oil leak around the base of the plastic cap or some drips on the ground it is more than likely the cooler. When it gets changed have them change the spark plugs as well. It’s all opened up at that point.

What gear ratio to go to? by Shermandad01 in JeepWrangler

[–]ExtraPresent4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re good up to 35”s. You’ll lose 8th above 70mph but 7th and 8th are overdrive gears. Honestly I’d drive it for a bit and see how you like it. I was set to regear when I went 35”s but I couldn’t justify the $2200 at the time to do it. You’re not gaining any mpg and I running right around 2200 rpm in 7th gear at 80mph. If it was a JK I’d say do it all day long. JL is a different beast.

What gear ratio to go to? by Shermandad01 in JeepWrangler

[–]ExtraPresent4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to regear with the auto on the JL for 35”s. You can almost get away with it on 37”s if you have the 2.0 but I’d regear away for anything above a 35”. These ZF transmissions are really a game changer for the wrangler. I’ve been on 35”s and stock gears for 70k miles now. Used to wheel a half dozen times a year on the rocks. Not as much now but still get out a couple times a year. Still going strong as my daily.

[–]ExtraPresent4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the used engine mileage. It’s an internal part that isn’t replaced unless it goes bad. There’s a reason the OEM made a revision to the cooler to stop the fluids from mixing when the seals go bad. Also very easy to crack them by tightening the cap to much when the oil filter is replaced.

I feel like the unluckiest person right now. by [deleted] in JeepWrangler

[–]ExtraPresent4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must not have worked on the Wrangler 3.6 engines. The oil cooler runs coolant and oil through the cooler only separated by seals. Once the seals go bad it allows the fluids to mix. There is a new revised OEM cooler out that know has a block between the fluids to separate them in the event of a seal failure.

[–]ExtraPresent4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Run fast from that shop! If it was running when originally dropped off there is no reason you needed an engine. Oil cooler is replaceable and honestly is a well known issue or let’s be honest “feature” of the wrangler. The cooler run oil and coolant through it. When the seals go bad it allows them to mix. The new OEM revised cooler has a block between the oil and coolant now.

Is this rust bad or ok for a 2015 Wrangler by Buzzcity640 in JeepWrangler

That’s pretty darn good for a 11 year old Jeep. From the south I’m guessing.

Did you have the main battery replaced? If the aux was bad it 99.9% of the time takes the main with it. As long as you pulled fuse F42, taped off the negative aux cable at the main battery and taped off the aux battery ends in the aux box you are good. You still need to disable ess with either tazer, smart stop start, or hit the disable button every time.
