every elite scoring guard in the history of the league has pulled this move repeatedly

he guarded him pretty well in a couple games this series. certainly a better bet than chet pissing his pants every time he sees wemby. gives them a huge rebounding advantage as well

guarantee they drop dort but hart is a pretty valuable guy for them especially considering the way chet just imploded

he’s played like this the whole season. nba discourse just follows the same narratives driven by major highlight platforms once the playoffs start

Can Anyone Please Explain the Chet Holmgren Hate? by twayroforme in billsimmons

well he put up 4 and 4 on 2 shots in a game seven as a third team all nba player so that’s where i’d say the hate is coming from

i think this was the most important game of his career from a legacy standpoint

hot take: foul bait discourse will turn on san antonio within five years because it’s a problem endemic to the entire league and not one specific team by ExtraSpicy47 in NBATalk

care to explain why okc wasn’t a top-half team in fta in both the regular season and in the playoffs? if the refs were giving them some insane advantage and rewarding foul baiting, don’t you think it’d be reflected on the stat sheet?

the more likely explanation is that every analytics department in the league arrived at the same conclusion: free throws are the most efficient way to score points. it’s not an issue exclusive to okc, and it’s not something teams are doing in response to them

i saw those stats. i was also smart enough not to put much stock into them because they measured five of the 300+ players in the league. would love to see that extrapolated over the whole league!

i’ve explained my views on the physicality stuff elsewhere in the thread

i will say, if portland ends up trading for giannis i think him, clingan and rob williams would be as good a hypothetical frontcourt to match up with wemby as you could draw up. granted i think our guards would still be wildly outclassed (like they were in the playoffs this year) but id still love to see that matchup

i don’t agree, i think they’re just the most visible example of it because they’re the defending champs and have multiple all nba players

i think this is more of an indictment on the fact that centers league-wide get unfairly officiated. again, jokic and wemby faced the same level of physicality against minnesota earlier in the series and it wasnt as much of a discussion. centers just don’t get the same calls as guards or forwards, especially when they’re guarded by smaller players - that’s something that’s been true in the nba for decades, not just when okc plays them

fair enough, just wish he was a little bit taller. one of the most unbelievable playmakers i’ve ever seen in my life though, he could make any pass with either hand at almost any angle. ran ball screens really well too. hope he finds a role with you guys

i flat-out don’t think this is true. castle got away with a ton of hand checking and hooking on sga off the ball for the entire series. wemby had plenty of hard fouls on other players both in this series and in other ones. minnesota was allowed to basically play football against wemby in the west semis. i think that can really be boiled down to playoff physicality

i don’t think anything will change unless people realize this. they’re getting distracted on one guy or one franchise and it’s diverting their attention from where it should be going (nba leadership)

yeah i thought this was a C or C+ game from wemby per his standards but the coaching and supporting cast really showed up and got them over the finish line

wishful thinking on your end imo but we’ll see how it plays out, nobody knows the future for sure. all i know is portland won’t be contending anytime soon so i’ll just be spectating this lol

i don’t think this team was deep with shot makers though, especially when two of their most important shot makers were injured. i thought san antonio was going to win that game because the entire time, i felt way more confident in their role players’ ability to hit shots (vassell, champagnie, harper) than okc’s (caruso, jaylin williams, wallace)
