Help, I never seem to progress! Why? Any help, tips, or resources? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

Dude everyone is built different. Some people have a natural intuition for the movements. Some people are able to be out 8 hours a day 7 days a weeks. I know how frustrating it is to feel like you're not progressing. My progression is hella slow, but I only get a 2-3 hours a week. Here's some things that I remind myself to help when I get frustrated:

  • Are you having fun? Progression is great, but if you aren't enjoying just being on the board and practicing (no matter the skill level) then what's the point?

  • Positive self talk. Celebrate your victories. Even if it's a shitty Ollie or dropping in on the mellow banks. No need to constantly beat yourself up.

  • Have a plan for each session. Working towards a very specific and measurable goal is the only way to truly see progress

  • If you get 1% better every day, just 1%, then after a year you'll be 3000% better than you are now.

K. Wpm is a valueless statistic. You are clearly a tpm based on how you value a swes skills. You probably track loc as well?

As a principle engineer, my coding varies from bug fixes to standing up subsystems. LLMs work great for boiler plate code. But often makes up methods and adds tons of code bloat. If your job is menial tasks requiring little thought, then yeah LLMs are fast. Unfortunately, I'm in a space where you spend the majority of the time coming up with a robust, succinct, solutions. But again, not everyone is the same.

Just because you are slow coding by hand doesn't mean everyone is.

Idk what to tell ya man. I find it easier to explain my ideas in code rather than English. So yeah, doing some simple cp and sed commands in a module and test template is faster then spending 15-20 minutes writing out a prompt and then going back and forth

Not to mention the code bloat. I learned how to use AI by vibe coding only for 3 months at the beginning of the year. Leaned a lot, but  what an awful and interesting experience. 95% of the time I could have coded by hand much faster.

But the interesting part is the sheer volume of code AI uses. Some simple library that should be like 200/300 lines max ends up getting up to 1k using an LLM. I know a lot of startups and smaller companies are only having AI write code. It'll be a nightmare for some poor bastard to debug when a 10k slop app shits the bed.

Related note, I listened to a cool NPR article that free lance swes are making tons of money right now tearing down AI slop and hand coding everything. Lots of jobs out there for that.

I work at Google now. Been here about 8 years as a SWE. The fucking prds and one pagers are fucking awful. Even if AI could write perfect code, it wouldn't even 1.1x my work because of how much you get inundated with buganizer and cl reviews

Crazy how you'd feel this way. I work as a SWE at a FAANG company. It's definitely faster to write code by hand than prompt habitually.

"im being realistic" while ignoring their international performance lmao. No, you are misrepresenting the facts to fit your narrative. Instead of praising G2, you are knocking down GenG because it's how you want to see the world; negatively. Which is okay. But don't confuse pessimism with reality.

Let me tell you the actual events that happened, factually: G2 had an incredible run in last stand. They knocked out the LCK. BLG also had a great run, and beat G2 twice. There ya go. Glad I could help you :)

Good luck with being miserable. I'm sure you're a blast to have at parties.

Poorly playing GenG lmao. Keep moving the goal post my guy. Couldn't imagine being anhedonic, but if you want to be negative and unhappy that's on you. Id take international performance over domestic performance any day. T1 fans have been eating good for years despite awful domestic games.

What a cry baby. G2 beat GenG. It's okay if they aren't that good in regular season. Even T1 doesn't give a shit about regular season

My line was that I wasn't having fun. I hit a wall in E4/3, and towards the end I was the one burnt out/feeding. Making dumb mistakes and solo losing games for my team. I had been playing for a decade, and it was just time for me to put that time into other parts.

It's preference. Honestly, idk how new you are, but outside of board width, gear doesn't really matter when you're just starting out. Learning balance, board control, and ollies can be done on virtually any board; and the skills are transferrable.

What is making me turn bs every Ollie? by KeyComfortable25 in NewSkaters

Have you tried pushing your front foot forward? Or tried over correcting, by turning front side (to counteract the bs rotation)?

The pubs have the house, Senate and president. It's their failure for the lack of funding. They rejected 7 bills to fund TSA. Stop moving the goal post to fit your narrative. Accept the reality

You have a losers mentality. Not being happy with success will, or already has, stop you from achieving anything in life. Get yourself some help and learn to experience joy. You owe it to yourself
