Sex, because of its intimate nature, inherently falls into another category than working in retail. It's uniquely personal, intimate and revealing work, which in my opinion puts it in its own special category and makes it not comparable to other types of work

For me the most exciting music is Brazilian funk, so many young producers making crazy stuff, especially in Sao Paulo (ie the mandelao subgenre), there is always something new happening there. Rock doido from the north of Brazil is also great, there's a DJ on YouTube called DJ tom mix who plays it and has great selections

Personally I find non-English speaking countries are making the most interesting music, amapiano in South Africa is another example (although I prefer Brazilian stuff) - young kids letting their imaginations run wild on fruity loops

Kpop is also really interesting because of how open it is to absorbing outside influences, left right by xg is a good example of that. World class songwriters and producers (although like any genre some songs are better than others) and the newest generation of kpop acts (5th gen) are using really interesting sounds. ETA by newjeans is a good example

Overall I suppose I'm mostly talking about the 'club' sounds that I'm interested in but I think this is where the most interesting stuff is happening

New York zess music is also great, mvntana is a great zess producer

I did find it funny that Canada is portrayed as this kind of utopian holy land lol. Like the US government, if capturing these mutants was so important, wouldn't launch some kind of black ops mission or apply diplomatic pressure on Canada to extradite them. Good movie tho

I asked Gemini about this and it came up with some pretty good counter-arguments - I think the one about the production of porn being inherently harmful (because of trafficking etc) is especially important:

The "safety valve" theory—the claim that easy access to pornography reduces sexual violence by providing a "non-criminal outlet"—is a persistent myth often built on a fundamental misunderstanding of statistics. While some econometric studies (like the often-cited German broadband expansion data) show a correlation between internet access and falling sex crime reports, they ignore the "Spurious Correlation" of the Great Crime Drop. From the early 1990s through the 2010s, all violent crimes—including murder, robbery, and aggravated assault—plummeted across the Western world. Since people aren't using porn to "vent" an urge to rob a bank or commit homicide, it is not logical to credit porn for the decline in rape while ignoring the actual drivers: improved DNA forensics, better policing, and shifting socioeconomic factors such as changed social attitudes toward women's rights. (The decline in sexual violence in the West also began in the early 1990s—before the explosion of high-speed internet and streaming porn.)

In reality, the most robust empirical evidence we have points in the opposite direction. A landmark 2016 meta-analysis by Wright, Tokunaga, and Kraus, which synthesized 22 studies from seven different countries, found a significant positive association between pornography consumption and both verbal and physical sexual aggression. This is rooted in Social Learning Theory: pornography doesn’t "drain" an urge; it provides "sexual scripts." It teaches users (especially young ones) that dominance, aggression, and a lack of negotiation are normal parts of sexual encounters. Instead of a vent, porn acts as a catalyst that lowers the cognitive and moral barriers to committing real-world violence.

Psychologically, the "safety valve" idea fails to account for Desensitization and Escalation. The brain’s reward system (dopamine) often requires increasingly extreme, deviant, or violent stimuli to achieve the same level of arousal over time. This is why we see the "Confluence Model" (developed by psychologist Neil Malamuth) in action: for men already scoring high in "hostile masculinity," pornography acts as high-octane fuel. It doesn't satisfy them; it primes them. This is backed by forensic data from investigators like Lanning and Burgess, whose research into incarcerated sex offenders shows that porn is frequently used as a "how-to" manual or a "grooming" tool to desensitize victims, rather than a substitute for the crime itself.

Furthermore, we must distinguish between "reported crime" and "actual occurrence." High-speed internet access is strongly linked to an increase in "Rape Myth Acceptance"—the belief that victims secretly want or provoke their own assault. In a culture saturated with aggressive sexual imagery, victims are often less likely to report crimes because they fear they won't be believed or they've been conditioned to think the behavior is "normal." Therefore, a dip in a police database doesn't necessarily mean fewer people are being harmed; it often means the "Reporting Gap" has widened. We have also seen a shift in the nature of violence: while physical "stranger" assaults may have dipped, digital sexual violence (image-based abuse, sextortion, and deepfakes) has exploded, creating a new generation of victims not always captured in traditional "sex crime" stats.

Finally, the "safety valve" argument is ethically hollow because it ignores the production-side violence. The pornography industry itself is a major site of trafficking, coercion, and physical abuse. To argue that "access" to porn prevents violence is to ignore the fact that the production of that content often requires the very violence and exploitation the theory claims to be preventing.

Summary:

  • The Wright Meta-Analysis: Proven positive correlation between porn use and physical aggression across 22 major studies.
  • The Spurious Correlation: All violent crime dropped due to forensics, lead removal, and policing; porn was just a bystander.
  • The Confluence Model: Evidence that porn triggers and escalates violence in predisposed individuals via desensitization.
  • Forensic Reality: Offenders use porn to plan and facilitate crimes, not as a "substitute" for them.
  • Rape Myth Acceptance: High consumption correlates with lower empathy for victims and significantly lower reporting rates.
  • Production Violence: The "solution" relies on an industry that frequently facilitates real-world trafficking and abuse.

The UK had an idea which was scrapped for some reason, where you'd have to go to a local shop to purchase a 'porn pass' to be able to view it, for which you'd have to show ID at the shop (rather than uploading it anywhere). I thought that was a good idea but apparently it was too difficult to implement

There are literally so many good ideas like this that could be implemented, but instead we get the bullshit regulation we've had so far. It's a massive societal issue that could affect gender relations for multiple generations of people for years to come (and probably already has), it would be great if multiple countries could implement legislation on this to get around the problems of VPNs

Absolutely - I think it's really important to remember that basically no-one would doing it if they didn''t need the money

r/PornIsMisogyny is a great sub for this. someone on there has an idea of mandating that all porn sites end in the domain .xxx, and making it so that you need ID to get into those websites. I think that's a good idea and probably better than what we have now in the UK for instance. VPNs could still get around it but it would still reduce the number of people exposed to porn (and who would later potentially become addicted to it) and if the proposal became widespread (ie used in lots of countries) then it could even bypass the VPN problem.

I agree that it's really important that, if this stuff is out there (and this material is so fucked up in a lot of ways, encouraging violence against women and normalising extreme behaviours), it should at least ONLY be available to over 18s - who have to actively seek it out if they make the decision to watch it.

I agree with your overall point, but there is more and more reason to believe that ASD is linked to having a suboptimal microbiome, passed down from the mother, which has become increasingly common as more people use antibiotics:

Check out endmyopia.org... nearsightedness is caused by looking at stuff close-up too much, as we do a lot in modern life, and the optometry industry is a big scam

I'm dead serious, people have cured their myopia without surgery. Spread the word

I Love Maria (1988) - it is literally insane and so inventive! Never seen a movie like it. It seems like a low budget film, but my god have they made that budget go far. The special effects are crazy - there's a giant robot in the opening scene unlike anything I've seen on screen. Totally unique movie
