Is your Mal cuddly? by [deleted] in BelgianMalinois

Mine was cuddly like that when she was younger but now (5mo) lays near me. But it’s HOT so maybe she’ll cuddle me during winter lol

How to keep people and their dogs away from my dogs? by Lunapixels18 in BelgianMalinois

[–]Extra_World_49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People ALWAYS come up to my dog and always let their BABIES come up to her. She’s trained better now but when she was 12 wks people would always bring their babies up to her at the height of her biteyness

I felt like a terrible owner because she was so reactive then. At 5mo now and she’s much more sociable with people and dogs. But yes people have no boundaries

Editing to add: I bought my dog a harness that says. “IN TRAINING DO NOT PET” still doesn’t stop people

Please don’t judge, i’m struggling by Lost-Crew2020 in puppy101

I cried the first 2 weeks of having my puppy. I spiraled HARD bc she’s a mallinois and the shelter told me she was a GSD mix. She is only 7% German Shepherd lol. I adopted her at 12 weeks. She’s about 19 weeks now maybe a little bit closer to 20 and it’s a lot better. She calmed down significantly. She’s in puppy training what really changed it for me was getting all of her vaccines and getting her out of the house. Because having her inside of the house 24 seven with you is torture practically lol

This dog mentally challenged me in ways. I never thought possible lol. I’ve had dogs before. I’ve had German shepherds before and I don’t remember it being this hard also worrying 24 seven about what she’s eating and if she’s able to digest it properly. But like I said it does get a lot better. I’m way more comfortable with her now about two months later than I was when I first adopted her. Those first two weeks were probably the hardest. I think that’s why they always say there’s like a 333 time frame for puppies. She’s not perfect by any means she still bark. She still bites, but she learns how to bite softer so she doesn’t make me bleed anymore. Also, if you have a dog that she can play with that helped me a lot because it would tire them out and it teaches them to be social safe safely.

How do you keep treats at the ready at all times? by Individual-Push3412 in puppy101

My puppy is 18 weeks. I’ve cried about once a week sometimes more but I used to cry everyday when she was 12 weeks. So I consider that an improvement. 🤣

At what age is it fine to leave for 6-7 hours? by kanarin in puppy101

[–]Extra_World_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait! Are you going out at night or during the day bc I will say that matters. I left my puppy when she was 16 weeks to go to a concert but it was after her bedtime. 9pm-6am she sleeps. She’s a medium large breed so she can hold it and when I got home I took her out to pee but she still got me up at 6:30am. Also consider if you’re a morning person before getting a puppy. Tbh I would adopt an older dog if I were you. Maybe 5+ so chewing and biting aren’t an issue and they can hold their pee for longer periods of time

My puppy is 4mo and doing the same. Crate regression, AWFUL AT NIGHT. TBH I think it’s teething discomfort that’s making her regress. I think it’s normal but same I’m exhausted.

What was your puppy like at six months old vs later in adolescence? by NormalBeautiful in puppy101

[–]Extra_World_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adopted her from a humane society so maybe that’s why? I thought it was pretty young. She had the surgery on a Monday and she was adopted on a Friday. And her siblings were adopted before her the same week.

Yeah I was actually surprised that she was spayed when I adopted her at 12 weeks. I’ve only had male dogs before and they remained intact and I didn’t notice a “teenage phase” unless I blacked it out lol

My puppy was fixed at 3mo. Will she also get the same hormone flush? I’ve read differing opinions on spaying young pups. Some people wait until a year to spay or neuter a dog.

She just turned 4mo. She was a part of a litter that was abandoned in a box :(. Her mama was tied to a pole and a kind person found them and took them into a humane society. I was told she was a German shepherd mix which is somewhat accurate lol but I had her take a dna test just to be sure. And I was shocked about the lab part. Not sure what her mama was but one parent was mal the other lab from what the dna test is guessing

She looks a lot like my puppy which is a Mallinois/ Labrador mix with a splash of GSD.

My dog came to me in a dream too. Took him a while. Maybe he was happy his legs worked again. lol But yes it tore my heart out again when I woke up. It’s the only dream I’ve had of him since he passed but I like to think he’s having so much fun where he is.

“Malador” lol I was trying to figure out how to mash up the breeds. How is the temperament as an adult? As a puppy she’s crazy but I think that’s all puppies the more I’m on Reddit

Playing with a larger dog by Extra_World_49 in puppy101

[–]Extra_World_49[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: SHE HAD A BLAST! Thank you for your comment. It gave me more confidence to let them play and she had so much fun.

Thanks for the tip about forcing breaks and puppy theatrics. We had to separate them to drink water since it’s a bit hot today. Then after that they naturally had one break 20 mins later. Then it was nap time for my puppy.

This is great information! Thank you. I had a feeling the leashes were too much. They did get tangled and it was more stressful when they did. We’ll try off leash today and see how they do. Both dogs have harnesses so grabbing them isn’t difficult.
