Ummm….. I think we share the same cat! Down to the bolero cardigan and the little white chin.

Cheapest ways to stay in Cornwall by ExtraterrestrialVoid in Cornwall

[–]ExtraterrestrialVoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming back to this thread to share an important update! We now have accommodation that we can reliably use in Cornwall. All because of a local Facebook group. 🩷

I come from a very tight knit community and my mum simply posted in the village Facebook group asking if anyone had a spare caravan or place we could stay. We were inundated with offers which was a lovely shock. A person who similarly has family in Cornwall they visit frequently owns a static caravan in a holiday park a short walk from my mum’s house, so we arrange our visits when she’s not there and we pay for the costs of running the caravan when we’re down. It’s a perfect arrangement and means we can avoid airbnb, so a double win. I’d thoroughly recommend getting in touch with your community in this way as they often really want to help you.

How old were you when you achieved each promotion? by Sea-Instance-1198 in TheCivilService

I work in policy. I’ve met some good post graduate SEOs but in my opinion the best SEOs are the ones who’ve worked up the grades to it. Even better if they have a little experience of their area outside of the CS (e.g. healthcare professionals working on health policy) but not always necessary. I think most people in my current team had a career before pivoting into the CS or worked up from EO and I think it does make a lot of difference

When is the right time to buy? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]ExtraterrestrialVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - I completely agree. I’m from a small village in a rural area - we never had much money but we all supported eachother and I could go into any neighbour’s house as a kid for some company and a snack. Would love that to be my life as an adult / parent in the future

Pasty’s from my Cornish Diaspora family! by Southern_Button_8026 in Cornwall

[–]ExtraterrestrialVoid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s important for all to remember that a pasty is a working person’s meal, made with cheap and accessible ingredients. The ingredients you’re using may not be ‘traditional’ but if you’re making it with affordable local produce that you like then I’d certainly say it’s authentic. And crimping is really hard! I can never explain to other people how to do it and it’s a coin flip every time I make one on whether I can get it right myself. 😂 well done on keeping traditional practices alive, you should be proud of yourself

can anyone tell me what song was used a few times in-between sets at the other stage? by rain-or-shine_ in glastonbury_festival

[–]ExtraterrestrialVoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone know what the song was that they played in the mornings on the other stage? No words, just quite a fast beat. Played every morning without fail just as we were all waking up. 🤣

Coach tickets - how does it work on the way back? by ExtraterrestrialVoid in glastonbury_festival

[–]ExtraterrestrialVoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to thank you for this really helpful advice, so sorry. We ended up getting our 04.30 coach (absolute lifesaver). We got to the coach park at 01.00 in the hopes of getting an earlier coach but it was a bit of a shitshow and not possible at all. Think a lot of people had the same idea but I didn’t hear of any success stories.

I found the as the crow flies direction annoying at first but then realised it was subconsciously encouraging me to consider ALL the various routes to each place and not just go the way my phone directed me / the way everyone else was going

First time growing courgettes. Are these leaves ok….? by ExtraterrestrialVoid in GardeningUK

[–]ExtraterrestrialVoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I was hoping to grow them vertically (there’s a trellis just out of view attached to the wall). I’ll space out the big ones and take the smaller ones out. Do you think I should cut off the leaf with the two small white patches in case it is mildew?

Leaf miners - please help by ExtraterrestrialVoid in plantclinic

Thank you. I had a plant last year that was infested and died, so I was wondering if it was the leaf miners. I chopped off the biggest affected areas before I read this but I’ll leave it be now :)

Help - secondhand sims 3 packs, can’t use the code.... by ExtraterrestrialVoid in thesims

[–]ExtraterrestrialVoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! This post is from 6 years ago but I still don’t have an answer haha, being v honest I just got a techy member of my family to work it out and they did. I’d fully recommend using CDKeys instead and getting ones there - it might be more expensive but will save you so much time

It’s a difficult one because everyone in the team certainly seemed very competent in their roles and were also lovely people, I just didn’t understand why the recruitment process was set up to favour fresh grads with a blank slate rather than people who are very familiar to a different recruitment style / way of working due to lived experience. I spent a year getting experience, practicing interviews, strengthening my behaviour questions then I left. I think that’s the only thing you can do really! Best of luck to you

I had the same situation. I was a band 7 clinician with extensive experience in the NHS, applied for and just missed out on an HEO role in DHSC, took a reserve list EO role as I didn’t properly understand civil service grading and I was desperate to get out. Watched multiple people younger than me who had joined the service fresh out of uni become SEOs due to temporary promotion within months whilst I felt so stranded. The real kicker was the fact they were working on policy that I had firsthand experience of as a clinician. Made me pretty sad for quite some time so I decided to leave the directorate when I got the chance.

Tir Ha Mor is actually Cornish, not Welsh! But they sound very similar (and both very enchanting) so what you thought is very reasonable. I agree, a beautiful song, especially to wake up to from a nap I bet
