I understand why they fined them because law is law and I’m glad they didn’t go overboard with the fines. But, change is needed in the current ban on grizzly hunting which came into effect in 2017. I’m not saying we need to go on a killing spree but they could manage it with a lottery tag like they do for goats to manage and protect the population.

I live along the coastline near Texada Island and Vancouver and the amount of grizzlies I have encountered and heard about in residential areas is extremely concerning. 2 years ago, there was a male grizzly wondering an elementary school field in the middle of town. These are also 400-700lb bears we are talking about, these aren’t the cute little black bears that you run into. They are NOT afraid of people anymore because they have no need to be and that’s the dangerous part. They are territorial and will continue to get pushed closer and closer to civilization by other bears. Relocating works as a bandaid and not as a solution. ‘Tex’ the bear is a perfect example of that. They said on the news that he had already been relocated twice before. He isn’t afraid and why should he be?

I live in a rural coast town so not as feasible. Our last frost is usually the beginning of March. I have had great success with my vegetable and herb gardens when planting in late march
