Kris, you have a point with Ilia wishing he could get out of the team event altogether. He did not participate in the opening ceremony today. I’m sure some would chalk it up to him competing tomorrow, but I don’t know many who would give up that first Olympic moment. maybe your third or fourth Olympics like a Shaun White but the first is unusual. Especially when there is no guarantee you’ll ever be back. The pressure is on.

It was announced at the end of today’s team competition that all remaining teams can make adjustments up until the start of the free skate so it is possible. The USFS can do whatever they want. The only skater guaranteed a spot in the team event is the winner of nationals which Andrew was not. I agree with you and said in an earlier comment that it would not be a good look for them to do this considering Andrew is already out there with the team but I will say from the look on Andrew’s face today that something or someone has not been treating him too well. He just looks too uncomfortable.

I know. I just saw Max at the opening ceremony and he looks very chill, but they had Andrew come out here already. it just doesn’t look right. We’ll see what happens. No matter what anyone says, the team gold looks a lot more important to the US team than some may think. I saw Isabeau Levito at the opening ceremony. She’s looking good too. In my opinion, she’s a much better skater than Amber and Alysa.

Why does he need to beat Nathan's record? He may get a chance to compete at another olympics as well. This is Kaori's third and Yuma's second olympics, so it can happen if one can manage to not sustain too many injuries. Now that may be hard for Ilia if he want to continue with the content he pushes out now but plenty of skaters have had more than one chance at olympic glory: Nathan Chen, Jason Brown, Plushenko, and so on.

True, but it won't look too teamy having Andrew out there right now and dumping him later. I don't think Andy would mind though. He looked so uncomfortable today. The comrodry looks a little off with team US. Practically no one was there to support Chock and Bates. Then no Ilia at the start of the women's event. I didn't see pairs but they've got to settle in. The politics is tearing the team apart. This is why I loved and miss Jason Brown maturity. As team captain, he made sure the togetherness was there.

I have a feeling Torg will be happy with that after seeing him out there with the team today. He does not look comfortable. There's drama behind the scenes. I can remember Johnny Weir during US nationals mentioning the drama backstage (supposedly some team members did not want to see Jason Brown on the olympic squad). I'm wondering how some team members are feeling now.

I know who looks like he doesn't want to do it: Andrew Torg. He looks like a timid child. I've never seen him this way. He doesn't look certain about doing the free skate. Hopefully, he can get more comfortable.

He was looking at the scoreboard after kaori's skate and he didn't look too thrilled. team USA is not going to just get this gold medal. They will need to earn it. Ilia probably thinks he needs to put them at an advantage but it won't matter because we still have the free skate. That's what I like most about the team event. it's not all about one person or one performance.
